Some of the people here in the fed have seen my posts today on Facebook, but for those of you who didn't, today was a rough day for the Gravedigger family. I'm sound asleep at around 7am when my phone goes off. It's my mom calling which is weird since I currently live at home with her and my dad. I'm groggy as shit but hear just enough to understand that they're apparently at the ER because they think my dad is having a heart attack. She quickly hangs up and I'm just laying there for a couple of minutes because I suddenly can't remember if she just called me and told me all that or if I dreamed it. Am I currently dreaming?
So I get up and open my door. Lights are on in the house, their bedroom door is open. No one in there or anywhere else in the house which makes me realize something did happen. So I do my getting ready for the day thing and I'm less than 5 minutes from leaving the house to head over to the hospital when the phone rings and it's mom again. Apparently dad had a heart attack and crashed. It took a shock to the heart and CPR to bring him back and they are going to airlift him to one of the big hospitals in our area. My brother is on his way from his house to pick me up so we can ride together to the big regional hospital (he told work the situation and that he's not going in today, luckily I work remote so no biggie). I instantly turn and nearly put a hole through the wall from a punch (it wouldn't be the first time I put a hole through the wall...long story >.>).
So we drive to the local hospital and we get to see him because the chopper wouldn't land on the hospital helipad due to visibility and so they have to drive 25 minutes away to a nearby tiny city airport to airlift him from there. We head over to the big area hospital an hour away. Long story short from here is that they put two stents in him and they did an ultrasound 3 hours ago but we won't know the results until tomorrow sometime (ultrasound will let us know the damage). Despite not being able to keep anything down, he is still doing well. He's awake and alert. He knows everything going on around him and knows who everyone is. He's honestly the best looking hospital patient I've ever seen. I have been to the hospital for many family members or friends and every single one of them, no joke, looked like shit. Dad looks no different from normal and everyone who saw him agreed.
A couple of inside jokes that I will explain. The first thing he talked about after they revived him was putt putt and this big tournament he has coming up this weekend. The doctor had to break the news that he wouldn't play. He's a professional Putt Putt player. That is not a joke and it does exist. He's been playing since the early 80s and is really good. He was poised to win the tournament this weekend at a course that he's been trying to win at for like forever. The other inside joke is that he absolutely adores Coca-Cola and when he told them he was finally hungry and ready to try to eat some food, he asked for cheese crackers and Coke. They had to talk him down to Ginger Ale which he wasn't happy with.
Anyway, I would appreciate prayers, happy thoughts, or whatever it is you believe in or send out to the world as he and my family need it. Much love!
