Hey y'all... if you're like me, you love seeing people break the shit out of video games. Well, the folks at Games Done Quick have made it an art form.
They raise money for charity doing twice yearly events. This year at Summer Games Done Quick, a guy beat Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in like an hour and a half... while blindfolded. No shit.
YouTube search Summer Games Done Quick... there's something for everybody to gawk at. It's madness.

Sometimes they just do Glitch Expos; this one's a fun one. N64 glitchfest ahoy!
Sometimes they take apart new games... usually as the finale of a block. (Before this, a guy beat Fallout 3 in 18 minutes.)
Fallout 3 in 18 minutes? That ain't shit; can you beat Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in less than 8? Well, this dude can.
Ok, so his actual time was 1hr 8minutes and change; I was off by like 20 minutes. This shit is amazing; dude beating Castlevania: SotN blindfolded.
So much cool shit... plus they raised like 1.2M$ for Doctors Without Borders! Huzzah!

Oh yeah, almost forgot- every year they have at least one person run Super Metroid, and a favorite thing people donate for is "Save the Frames"/"Save the Animals". If you've beaten Super Metroid (hi, 90s kids! What up, suckas?!) you may have noticed at the very end you have the option to take a sliiight detour to save some alien animals who've helped you on your journey; this takes, like... 30 seconds tops if you're quick about it.
Tons and tons of people donate for "save the frames", often doing so as "Kill the Animals".
It's one of the many fun nerdy things I love about Games Done Quick (Awesome GDQ is in January, Summer GDQ is in July).
This event featured a 4-way Super Metroid race!

My brother is obsessed with watching speedruns. He's watched them for years and years. He's slowly getting me interested in them. I watched a Super Metroid run all the way through (45 minutes) about 3 weeks ago I think on Twitch. I was really trying to stay up to watch the Super Mario RPG one, but I fell asleep. I heard that it was a 1 person run though. Are there any competitions showing multiple people doing Super Mario RPG at the same time?

Watching people speedrun Super Metroid makes me feel inferior as hell. I mean, that's like... all I did sophomore year of high school, yet people just *blow* through that shit. It's amazing. Never seen a Super Mario RPG race, though that sounds cool as hell. I think this year at SGDQ they did a Super Mario 64 race... usually on the longer games they just have single player runs, though I've seen some entertaining packs of fools on the couch doing commentary for longer runs (Chrono Trigger runs especially). Mario RPG would be a fun one to see a race to the finish in, for sure- I think you can tweet that suggestion at them, actually (if you're a tweeter). I would totally watch like four hours of dudes playing Mario RPG. Why not? It's, like, for charity and stuff. -B.
