Sunday June 19th, 8:44 pm
The scene opens with a beaten and tired Dustin Beaver walking back down the entrance ramp towards the locker room. His manager, Vengeance, walks close to him as Beavs has just finished off thwarting a would be attack from the young Kyle Cameron, a man that had obviously taken issue with Dustin winning the number one contender match between the two of them two weeks ago. Over Beaver’s left shoulder sits his newly acquired prize, the UCI Television Title. As he walks down the ramp, Beavs points at the cheering audience and slaps his TV title belt, letting them know that they had played a major role in his huge victory that evening. After safely making it behind the curtain, Dustin lets out a celebratory yell and repeatedly smacks Vengeance on the shoulder.
Dustin Beaver: “We did it, my man! I told you that we could if we just Beavlieved in the positivity and we fucking did it!!”
Vengeance was obviously in a state of intense celebration, as he nodded his head at regular speed instead of his usual slow pace.
Vengeance: “What can I say, you were right. I have to admit, when you first told me about this making positive changes thing in your life, I was pretty damn skeptical about it changing your wrestling career for the better.”
Vengeance momentarily gazes longingly at the TV belt.
Vengeance: “But seeing you standing here as the TV Champion… I don’t know if I’ve ever said it, but I’m a Beavliever now.”
Beaver glances at the belt on his shoulder before turning to Vengeance and smiling.
DB: “I’m just glad to finally hear you say it. Now how about we go out and celebrate responsibly?”
Vengeance executes his world famous slow nod. A quizzical look then comes across his face.
Vengeance: “Will this responsible celebrating include shitty beer drinking?”
Beavs puts his hand on Vengeance’s shoulder and stares him in the eyes.
DB: “Of course it will, Veng, of course it will.”
Monday June 20th, 9:30 am
Dustin and Vengeance stand outside of the Langham luxury hotel after checking out to begin their trip back to Toronto to train for the week. This was the week that UCI was having their special elections to determine who would face the current champions for shots at the titles. Now that Beaver holds the TV strap, the elections are of great importance to the Supreme Beavliever. Beavs has Vengeance check his phone to see if UCI had posted the election results yet.
Vengeance: “Nah, I don’t see anything yet, bro.”
Just as his manager was finishing checking for the election update, a boy and his mother are walking by Dustin. The boy stares in awe at the shiny belt over Beaver’s shoulder, Beavs grins as he takes notice of this.
DB: “Hey Veng, how about instead of going back to TO immediately, we stay in Chicago for a bit? I can walk around with the belt on my shoulder and hopefully people will recognize me or want to talk to me, and then we can spread our message of positivity and possibly get some new fans to come see us?”
To slightly change up the game, Vengeance rubs his chin as he slow nods, thinking about Dustin’s idea.
Vengeance: “Yeah that could help us out in the long run. And I’m sure your trainer wouldn’t mind if you gave him a call and let him know what’s up.”
Beaver adjusts the belt on his shoulder to sit higher up.
DB: “Then it’s settled, I’ll give Gags a call to let him know what we’re doing and then it’s time to hit the town! I hope you’re up for some random stranger interaction today!”
Vengeance shrugs his colossal shoulders.
Vengeance: “You’re the champ; I’m just along for the ride.”
Beavs chuckles.
DB: “You’re a little more important than that, but I’m glad you agree. Well, let’s get to it then!”
Monday June 20th, 11:11 am
Beaver and Vengeance have been walking the streets of Chicago for a little over an hour now. They’ve chatted with several random people, some being wrestling fans, others just gawking at the shiny belt on Dustin’s shoulder. Beavs made sure to drop a word or two about doing something positive that day that would benefit society in some way. Beaver feels great; he can’t remember a time where he felt this satisfied that he’s doing the right thing in his life. As Dustin is reaching maximum self confidence levels, he and Vengeance stumble on a local music festival taking place. The two stop there and listen to the music for a while, it’s nothing spectacular but the crowd seems happy enough. Just as Vengeance looks like he’s had enough and is about to walk away, Beaver holds out his arm to stop the big guy.
DB: “Yo Veng, hold up, I think I just had a great idea.”
Vengeance doesn’t look too pleased but he doesn’t try to break past Dustin’s makeshift barrier.
Vengeance: “Fine, I’ll bite, what is this amazing idea of yours?”
Beavs drops his arm and looks toward the music audience.
DB: “Well we’re out here on the streets of Chicago trying to get our message of positivity out to random passersby, right?”
Vengeance performs a beautifully executed slow nod.
DB: “Look at this big ass group of people right here. What if I just got up on that stage and spoke the message to all of them? We’d get the word out to a few hundred people all at once!”
Vengeance rubs his chin as he looks over to the crowd Dustin is referencing.
Vengeance: “I mean, yeah, that would work. Then we could get the hell out of here faster and get your ass back into training mode for your first title defense.”
Beaver holds up his hand and opens his mouth to have some kind of witty response to Vengeance’s analysis.
DB: “…yeah I’ve got nothing to reply to that with. But yeah, it’s a good idea so I’m going to see if I can find out who’s running this thing.”
Beavs, followed by Vengeance, starts walking towards the stage area. Dustin makes sure to scan the area around the stage to see if he can spot somebody who looks like they’re in charge of the show. As the pair near the stage, a bald middle aged man, wearing a black t-shirt and black pants comes jogging over to them.
Bald Man: “Holy shit, you’re Dustin Beaver, the new TV Champ of UCI!”
Beaver and Vengeance look at each other before looking back towards this mystery man.
DB: “Um yeah, that’s me! Pleased to meet you Mr.?”
The man’s eyes are wide with excitement.
Bald Man: “Boregan, Billy Boregan, the pleasure is all mine truly! So are you a big fan of the local music scene then, Mr. Beaver?”
Beavs thinks momentarily before nodding in agreement.
DB: “Uh yeah, I’m a big music fan. My manager and I were just out spreading the word of positivity, trying to help get people to contribute to their community in a good way.”
Boregan smiles wide, appearing to love everything that Dustin was saying to him.
BilBo: “Yeah, I’ve been following what you’ve been doing in the wrestling world lately, and I think it’s incredible. How would you like to go up on stage here and tell this whole crowd that positivity is the way to go?”
Beaver stands there of a minute, astounded by the offer presented to him. After too long of a pause, Vengeance slaps Beavs in the back of the head to snap him back to reality.
DB: “Oh, yeah! That’s exactly what we were hoping to do here! Do you know who I need to talk to to be able to get some time up on stage?”
Boregan laughs at Dustin’s question.
BilBo: “Mr. Beaver, I’M the guy running the show! How about you go up after this band? They only have about 10 minutes left!”
Beavs shakes his head in disbelief at this revelation.
DB: “No shit, that sounds perfect! I’ll give the crowd a speech they hopefully won’t forget for a long time!”
Boregan puts his hand on Beavs’ non-belt shoulder.
BilBo: “I know you will, champ. You just have to… Beavlieve!”
Beaver looks back at Vengeance once again, the big man shaking his head back and forth at Boregan’s reciting of the now famous line.
Monday June 20th, 12:00 pm
It is now high noon and Beavs and Vengeance are standing next to the stairs leading on to the stage. Boregan is up at the microphone getting the crowd riled up and ready for a surprise speaker. Just before Dustin is about to take the stage, Vengeance taps him on the shoulder and holds up his phone.
Vengeance: “Yo, the voting results for the Election Day show are up. Looks like you’ve got a rematch with Kyle Cameron.”
Beaver punches his right fist into his open left hand. He looks focused and ready for the task presented to him.
DB: “Good, after dealing with that attempted chair shot when I won the TV title, it’s obvious that Mr. Cameron didn’t get the message I tried to send him in our last meeting. I’ll make sure he gets it this time, UCI is no place for the negative energy he brings to it.”
As Beavs finishes his mini motivational speech to Vengeance, Boregan calls him up to the stage. Without hesitation, Dustin runs on to the stage while waving to the spectators. He shakes hands with Boregan and then takes his spot in front of the microphone. Vengeance joins him on stage, standing a safe distance behind the TV champ. Beaver waits for the applause to die down before he begins to speak.
DB: “Thank you for such a warm reception ladies and gentlemen, it’s truly an honor to be here today! I can tell that this is a great crowd, full of positive energy!”
The onlookers cheer for Beavs’ words of praise to them.
DB: “For those of you who don’t know who I am, as Mr. Boregan said, my name is Dustin Beaver. I’m a professional wrestler, wrestling for the UCI organization based right here in Chicago!”
More clapping is heard for the city name drop.
DB: “Last night, I was in a very tough match against a man named Wentworth Updegraff Jr. Now I know his name sounds posh and like he’s probably a spoiled rich boy, which well, he kind of his, but there was nothing boyish about the beating he gave me last night!”
A few laughs are heard from the crowd.
DB: “But even though I was thrashed around, I never gave up on my chance of winning that match. I stayed positive about my skills and the crowd’s ability to rally behind me, and it paid off.”
Beavs holds up his UCI TV Title belt.
DB: “It paid off with me winning this, the UCI Television Championship!”
Dustin places the belt back on his shoulder as he listens to another round of applause.
DB: “That’s what my life is all about now, ladies and gentlemen; my life is about being positive and being the best wrestler that I can be, in and outside of the ring.”
Beaver pauses for a moment as he thinks about what to say next.
DB: “You see folks, I’m tired. I’m tired of having to turn on my television, or look at a newspaper, or go online and see all of this bad news. I’m tired of terrorist attacks, here in the United States and around the world. I’m tired of never-ending wars between different nations. I’m tired of people being hated by other people because they look or act differently, even though they’re hurting no one by just being different. I’m tired of having to hear about humans slowly destroying the planet we live on.”
More cheering comes from the crowd along with a few “Yeah!” exclamations.
DB: “For example, my next wrestling opponent is a young man named Kyle Cameron. Now I’ve faced Kyle before and I told him back then that I was going to teach him a lesson. You see, young Kyle is one of the youths of America that is all about self-serving. The week before we had our first match, he posted a segment talking about how he was upset that he was grounded for smoking marijuana in his parent’s house. Then the week of our match, he had an interview were he just talked about yours truly in a derogatory manner, his little fits contributed nothing to society.”
The audience boos for the description of Cameron’s actions.
DB: “What was I doing those two weeks? Dustin Beaver was going to different places, like the Zen Centre and the public library, getting myself in the right frame of mind to be a better person, be an anti-Cameron and actually benefit society in some way with my actions. In addition, I was hard at work training my wrestling skills, actually putting in the effort that it takes to be great in this business.”
Beavs glances at his title belt before continuing to talk.
DB: “You see this is the lesson that I was trying to teach Kyle. That’s it’s not all about him just showing up and getting what he wants. I was trying to show him that you actually need to work, to be a contributing member of society and earn what you deserve, just like all of you good people here. But it became very apparent to me last night that Mr. Cameron did not learn the lesson I was trying to teach him.”
The crowd is hanging on every word that Beaver has to say, wanting to know where this story takes them.
DB: “Last night as I was celebrating my title victory, Kyle came out and attempted to attack me with a steel chair.”
Loud booing from the spectators is heard as Beaver puts a hand up in an attempt to calm them.
DB: “Now Mr. Cameron tried to ruin my moment, but all he received for his efforts were my boots hitting that chair and the steel hitting him in the face!”
The audience erupts in laughter; a few “in the face!” shouts are heard.
DB: “But that’s fine folks, I don’t mind teaching Kyle this lesson once again. However mark my words; he WILL get it this time. I’m holding nothing back on him and judging by his actions last night, I know he’ll try to have a few tricks up his sleeve. I didn’t become the champion by sitting back and not being prepared though, I’ll be ready for whatever Kyle Cameron has. When my hand is raised over him in victory once again, he will understand the true power of positivity and what I like to call Beavlieving, my term for believing in yourself.”
Dustin points at the crowd, sweeping his arm across the entire group.
DB: “I know that not all of you are wrestling fans, but what I’m attempting to do goes beyond wrestling. If you’re available and able to, I would love to see as many of you guys as possible Sunday June 26th at Humboldt Park, right here in Chicago, to cheer me on to victory. I know that the positive energy I can feel right now from you guys would help lead me to another victory, together we can show the world that leading a positive life can and will contribute to great things.”
As Beavs looks into the sea of people, he spots an empty table to the side of the crowd. Beaver motions for Billy Boregan to come talk to him on stage.
DB (whispering): “Hey Billy, is that table over there taken by anyone?”
Beaver points at the open table.
BilBo (whispering): “No I don’t think so. You wanna hang out there and interact with the people after this?”
Dustin smiles at Billy and nods.
DB: “That sounds excellent to me, let me wrap this up quick!”
Boregan scurries back off the stage as Beavs once again steps up to the microphone.
DB: “In closing, I hope I’ve gained a few Beavlievers here today. I know I’m just one man, but with the support from all of you, I really do hope that we can make the world a better place. Thank you everyone and
I hope you enjoy the rest of the music!”
Beaver points at the table.
DB: “I’ll be at that table over there signing autographs and taking pictures if anyone is interested, thanks again guys! And I hope I’ve made all of you…Beavlieve!”
Raucous applause explodes from the crowd as Dustin bows and walks off the stage. Beaver and Vengeance make their way over to the open table, where Beavs signs several autographs and takes even more pictures with festival goers for the next few hours. Dustin is almost overwhelmed by the amount of love he receives from the few hundred people in attendance. Beaver turns to Vengeance as the group around their table finally disperses a little.
DB: “Damn Veng, I would have to say that this little excursion was a success. I think we’ll have quite a few new Beavlievers in attendance for the Election Day show.”
Vengeance does a glorious slow nod.
Vengeance: “Yup that was some good shit you did there.”
Beaver grins.
DB: “Well I suppose all that’s left to do now is show Kyle the light once again. Whether he likes it or not, he will…BEAVLIEVE!”
