Just a random thought, but thought I'd ask who everyone favorite ___ was for every musician in a band. Others will be posted as well.
For me, I'd probably go with Dave Grohl

I think there is a big difference between singer and front man. My favorite singer of all time is Mike Patton of Faith No More; if you listen to his other stuff like Mr. Bungle and Mondo Cane, the man has an absolutely staggering vocal range and ability. He also voiced every single infected in L4D besides the Witch.
Front man is more than singing - it's showmanship and that sort of charismatic x-factor which draws attention. It can even be irrelevant to singing, as Pete Wentz played bass but was definitely the frontman of Fall Out Boy over Patrick Stump. I'm inclined to also follow the train of thought that Mercury was the most complete package of them all, but some of the other greats have to mention GG Allen, Johnny Rotten, Bruce Springsteen, and Jimi Hendrix.

If we're talking purely as a singer, my favorite would be Alex Clare for just having insane fucking pipes.

I love Faith No More so I wholly approve of this message but yeah.. Freddy Mercury might not be my favorite frontman but is likely the best.

My favorite singer of all time would probably be Jim Morrison. I know he wasn't technically a great vocalist, but his voice turned the Doors from another shitty psychedelic band into one of the greatest bands of all time. When you're talking about front men, I might get some shit for this, but for me there's none better than Dee Snider. He is the embodiment of charisma. Iggy Pop is an incredibly close second.
