Ok so catching up on the book thread made me notice some Warcraft books in Andre Jenson's photos of his bookshelf. I know it's not the same games, while still in the same universe, but thought I'd ask anyway. Who here still does or at least used to play World of Warcraft? I used to be borderline addicted to that game (very borderline, probably actually addicted). As great as that game is/was, it ruined video games for me for several years. Every game was compared to it. I pride myself on trying as hard as possible to not compare books, TV shows, movies, etc. to others and evaluate these mediums individually as if it's my first of that kind.
With WoW? Nope, everything was compared to it. I probably bought so many games over the past 10 plus years (I got WoW 6 months or so after its release) that never really got a fair shake because I'd just be like, well this game isn't as good as WoW. Even if the game was a completely different type of game.
Like I said, I've played on and off since 6 months after the game's release. I have taken breaks now and again and took a break for the entirety of Mists of Pandaria and the last year of the expansion before that. I came back for Warlords of Draenor and it did hold my interest for a time, but that eventually waned. I currently play every once in a while, mainly when it's Holiday event time (Lunar Festival, Noblegarden, Children's Week, etc.). I see that the newest expansion, Legion, is coming out but I'm not sure how long I will play after it's released. I feel like the game no longer has anything to offer me.
Questing and doing dungeons gets old after a while. PVP can get old and is hard to get into unless you have a team and you have to dedicate too much time to get good at arena. Same can be said for raids. I think had achievements not been added a few years ago, I probably would have quit years back and never touched the game again.
I used to be bigger into the game back when my real life friends played. We played together all the time, every day and had such a blast. I have memories of being a Rogue in Hillsbrad Foothills with one of my best buddies who was a warlock. We would go out into the area east of Southshore (this is back even before Burning Crusade btw) and have him do a /sit and /afk to appear as if he wasn't at the computer. I would stealth nearby and we would wait for people to attack him and then gank them. We would do this every day for the longest time until they would hop on their max level characters and chase us off.
I remember the days of crashing servers from huge city raids. Except for this one period during my time playing WoW, I spent majority of my time playing as Horde. However at the time when we were doing city raids, I was in a huge Alliance guild and we crashed the server with hundreds of players destroying Orgrimmar.
I could go on and on about my WoW experiences, but I'll stop there for now and see what others say about if they've played or not.
