The room is dark. The only light coming from the video monitor. It shows last weeks confrontation between Kevin Bishop and Corey Bull against Karlie Nash and El Payaso Loco. James Cross is sitting in a steel chair inside the room watching intently for any weaknesses in Bishop's style. Suddenly the door opens and the lights are turned on as James pauses the video.
James: What do you want?
Bobby: Man the cameras have been in here for twenty minutes and all you're doing is watching video...on a guy who isn't even your opponent this week!
Apollo: We're worried. You've never been this...obsessed over something.
James sighs as he stands up.
James: That's simple boys. For once I'm worried.
Apollo and Bobby share a look.
Bobby: Why?
James: Simple...anywhere I've gone in the undergrounds I've heard them whisper...whisper 'James Cross is good but he couldn't make it in any real league'.
James sighs.
James: The reason I want to fight Kevin isn't just because I say that I'm the 'Best In The World', but I want to prove to all those idiots they are wrong. You see it's not that I'm overlooking L Verez I know that to do something like that is stupidity on my part. As much as I want to win that gauntlet match and claim that Hypermedia title...I know it won't prove what I want to prove. It won't prove I'm the best...it won't prove I belong here...don't get me wrong L Verez is a great talent and claiming a title would be a great start to my UCI in ring action, but I feel people will just say 'Oh well of course he can beat some low mid-carder'. I'm not going for the top dogs because I feel anything less is beneath me but because I refuse to have anyone doubt my abilities. I don't just say I'm the 'Best In The World' for a marketing phrase...I eat, sleep and breath this industry and I won't settle for less than to prove I'm the absolute best!
James stares at the camera.
James: I was once one of those guys who was stuck in the mid card always in a rut...never getting my chance to show off MY skills! Watching idiots who couldn't hold a candle to my in ring talent be moved up and into better things while I sat there and waited for my call. Then one day...I snapped! I was done waiting for my turn and I went out to the ring...MY ring and I laid down the law! Now here I am in the co-main event, and no offence boys but instead of being given a one on one shot I got to go in a gauntlet match? Fuck that! I'll be there next week...I'll compete in that match...but I'm telling you all right now...I won't be taking that title.
James look is so intense you could almost see sparks coming from his eyes.
James: Don't get my words twisted...I said I won't be taking that title...I never said I would lose the match. Wherever I'm at in the gauntlet I will run circles around L Verez...I will humble L Verez...and I will sure as hell put her to sleep with the 'B.I.T.W'! That's it though...I will lay her out and prove my dominance...then leave her a broken mess in the ring.
James takes some deep breaths as Apollo and Bobby have hug grins on their faces.
James: Actually you know what? If I do end up being the final man to enter the gauntlet...this isn't a prediction but a spoiler...I WILL...put L Verez to sleep...then at the end of the match Taylor Lorde will announce...'Your winner and new Hypermedia championnnnn....James Cross'! Because I am the best, and we...are...Gold....Standard.
James raises his right fist into the air as the look on his face screams that nothing...I mean absolutely nothing will stop him in his quest. James walks out of the shot as Bobby smiles and turns to Apollo.
Bobby: God damn I missed him.
Apollo chuckles.
Apollo: Well one of us better beat her before he gets his hands on her otherwise he might just destroy her and take that title from her cold dead hands.
Bobby nods his head.
Bobby: For her own good one of us should spare her of that fate...
Apollo and Bobby share a look before they start to laugh.
Apollo: That's a good one.
Bobby: Seriously though I really do want to win that title.
Apollo: Me too...may the best man win?
Apollo holds out his hand as Bobby shakes his hand.
Bobby: You mean 'Greatest'.
Bobby smirks as Apollo just rolls his eyes.

L now sits on a cliff, the sun beginning to set as the ocean waves splash beneath her. Her Hypermedia Title now strapped around her left shoulder and right side. The meadow behind her, just like her hair, is allowing the wind to move the leaves, grass, and flowers.
There’s one more opponent I’ve had yet to discuss. “Best in the World” James Cross. I can go on and on about how generic the name is, but I think I’ve done that enough as it is. This competitor is a bit different from his adversaries, however. I believe he’ll actually be the greatest threat of the three. He has the intensity that the other two lack. He has more drive, and more focus as well.
His achilles heel, however, is his obsession. His obsession of being the best. Which brings me back to the point of why Gold Standard as a unit will fail. He’s so intent on being above everyone else, that he wants to skip the lower card, and move right to facing the likes of the Harbingers, Kevin Bishop and Corey Bull, when he’s unsure if he can even stand up to the likes of M.A.X, Hippo Harry, Ginger Red, or myself.
That’s the problem with all of Gold Standard. They think they can just look past people they see as lesser talent. They see this as an easy match for them, but they have no clue of what I’m actually capable of. They most likely don’t care either. Once that bell rings, and they see what I’m truly capable of, their minds are going to change drastically.
Now as much as I seem to be talking down on these three members, people may assume that I’m seeing past them as well. That I look down on them, or see them as lesser talent. This isn’t the case. I just simply know their weaknesses. I know exactly what will cause them to fail. These three individuals want so bad to be seen as the best that they don’t even pay mind to the other hard workers within UCI, just because they aren’t main eventers.
To be a true competitor, one mustn't look through their obstacles as if they don’t exist. You strategize through each task, because you never know when those obstacles may surprise you with something you would never expect.
This is my chance to prove that I’m worthy of being champion, and I’m not going to take that opportunity lightly. I’m going at this with all of my might, thought, and heart. That’s how much it means to me to be the Hypermedia Champion. That’s how much UCI means to me. You three have no clue what you’re up against, and it’s about time your mouths get shut, and your eyes open to what UCI has in store for your fate, and that starts with being outclassed by the Protector of the Universe, L Verez!
Walking towards L is a familiar face. Someone who she has been bonding with for a couple weeks at this point. Her fellow Guardian member, Wade Moor. He stands next to her, very near the brink of death for many, but Wade is no mere mortal.
L Verez: Ahh, Wade. You’ve returned to the land of the living! The Milkverse! I was hoping you would come.
Wade: This is indeed the best place to test how well I’m able to control my powers. I just feared for your safety was all.
L Verez: Well, I’m not dead yet, so that’s a good sign!
The two both laugh at L’s dark humor.
Wade: I’m glad. Wouldn’t want Spencer Adams paying for a new title. He’s irritated enough as it is.
L Verez: Well, considering he put me in a gauntlet match for my first title defense for reasons that don’t even involve me, I’d say “irritated” is an understatement.
Wade: He’s certainly becoming quite the tyrant. Beings like us can overcome that, however. I believe we have other things to worry about though.
L Verez: Agreed. At first, when I saw this 15 shenanigans, I thought it was just another ploy by the Society, considering 15 started antagonizing us very soon after the Society attacked Bonnie at Killing Floor. Not only that, but Society seems to have disappeared once this 15 character showed up. But the mannerisms of 15 differ a lot from the Society, and Andre doesn’t seem affiliated with any of this.
Wade: We won’t know for certain until they show themselves. Whoever they are, we’ll be prepared for them.
L Verez: I’m just a bit bored of all this cryptic nonsense. They’re no better than the average internet troll, basically glued to social media just to try and toy with us. The only statement they’ve made so far is burning down Alex’ rover, which I’m very upset about, but it doesn’t make them a threat to us. They found a vehicle, made fire, and burned it down. That’s not intimidating to me. It’s almost childish, honestly. They’re no better than rioters that think that their movements give them the right to cause chaos, and destroy things that people have worked hard to earn. I don’t see 15 as a major issue, and I won’t until they prove otherwise.
Wade: I understand. I’m simply keeping a close eye until they actually make any moves that alarm us. But speaking of people that try to destroy things that others worked hard for… Gold Standard seems to want to do just that to your title reign. My fear is that you’ve been so focused on making sure that Zima and Vincent are ready for NBW, that you’ve lost focus on your own battles. You can never forget that no matter how far you get in this industry, that there’s always someone that’s better than you.
L Verez: Oh, there’s no need to worry about that. I’m focused on them for sure. I still have my android replicas, and I always make sure to study each opponent I have. I may be champion now, but I remain focused on every match that I face. This gauntlet match is no different. I just know when to focus on my friends and when to focus on myself.
Wade: Well let’s hope you’ve committed enough time to yourself. No matter who they are, you’re still against three people. Are there any that you see as more threatening out of the three?
L Verez: I wouldn’t say “threatening”, but more so as possibly the most challenging… but I would say James Cross. He’s not such a stereotypical ego filled Milk like the other two. He’s got something in him. There’s potential there. Hopefully, he shows that in this match.
Wade: So you want them to give their best.
L Verez: Definitely! There’s nothing I would hate more than an easy win. That’s partially why I accepted this gauntlet match. I want to be the most honorable champion in UCI.
Wade: I’m sure Spencer would have made you accept it.
L Verez: Yeah, no doubt…
L stares at the seas that Wade’s father, Poseidon controls.
L Verez: One of them is named Apollo. Do you think he holds even a piece of a candle to the Greek God Apollo?
Wade chuckles at L's rhetorical question.
Wade: Not even close, my friend.
L continues looking towards the ocean. Her face seems relieved.
Wade: What is it?
L Verez: You seem a lot more in control now. Your powers haven’t gone out of whack since we’ve been here. You’re very calm as well. You seemed a bit disturbed when you first came to my base.
Wade: You noticed that, did you?
L Verez: My perception aids me very well!
Wade: You think it’s time then?
L Verez: I think everyone’s been waiting long enough.
Wade: Let’s move forward then, shall we?
L Verez: Well, you may be the son of Poseidon, but I need a bit of equipment to move forward.
Right on cue, L’s hovercraft appears, almost from nowhere, to allow her to travel through the seas. She jumps onto it, and looks toward her newest companion.
L Verez: Now, we can move forward!
