While it isn't my cup of tea ...Spencer is right when he says that there is a certainly a market for micro's. In fact, it is becoming the norm for most of e-fedding and it does provide a good "in" for outsiders to the fed. Now, my opinion on WHY micros are so big now is incredibly cynical. They say it is because they don't have time for traditional RP's ...but it seems to be that they have plenty of time to touch themselves on twitter, meaning they want to put little effort in for the same reward as really sitting down and thinking about an RP. Also, the stigmata of "novel RP's" in the hobby currently. With that said, this is the status quo of e-feds right now and might be the only way to get these handlers "through the door" to see how great the fed is. (I'm hoping they don't read the "touching themselves" comment.)
But to play Devi's Advocate (to myself), UCI thrived on being outside the current trends of what every other e-fed was doing. Instead of totally embracing the twitter lifestyle, which is and always has been abusive, Spencer has always done a good job of using his own judgment and not letting twitter inform his opinion, keeping the fed independent from it and it's drama. It was a good call as now it stands a solely unique fed to what all of the heavy twitter based feds are doing. By staying out of the Zeitgeist and doing your own thing, a fed with it's own identity was created. And to that, any suggestion of going micro should probably be ignored. I'm sure Spencer talks to many who will use this phrase "...I would join your fed, but the word count is too big," as I have had the same conversation. The thing is that UCI seems to have thrived without those handlers who want you to bring down the word count for them ...just as it did when I was telling him he needed to conform more to the standards of twitter. The more you cater to your members and what they like and the more they are happy, the more you will attract others like them from elsewhere. The right people will take notice and the wrong people will keep their distance.
So to answer your question: I dunno.
