Beyond the Infinite- There are few people in the fed right now that have captured the interest in so many people. Even in the past few months since I started full time this person has taken leaps and bounds from where they were even just then to one of the most promising yet humble writers in the entire company.
Winning the Golden Ticket match truly solidified her in the eyes of everyone, defeating the current number one contender for the World Title as well as the Television Champion past and present Casey Holliday has her Golden ticket and the World Title is her goal. If she keeps up this momentum the sky isn’t the limit, the fucking solar system is. So without further ado…
BTI: First let me know a little bit about yourself. Who are you, what do you do, likes, dislikes. Pretend that you’re trying to win a date with me, but you also are looking for a serious relationship so tell me as much as you would tell someone on a first date. For the record, I look awfully sexy tonight in a rainbow male romper.
Casey Holliday: Some basics. I'm 26 working retail and I actually don't find it too bad.
BTI: Man or woman… for some reason I only ask people who write women this, but as a person who writes a woman character I’m interested in seeing how other’s come about it.
CH: Guy. I usually keep it close to the vest because for whatever reason, there can be a negative stigma about guys writing female characters but if asked, I'm up front about it.
BTI: What's the hardest part about writing a character of the opposite gender? What do you like about it most?
CH: Writing the opposite gender comes as naturally as it can be to me, so it's not really hard to do so anymore since I've done it nearly from the first day I started 10 years ago. However, the hardest part about it is the criticism from other people that I've experienced, especially in the first few months. No, I'm not talking about criticism as in writing quality, I'm talking about criticism as in there are people in this game that think someone writing the opposite gender is "weird". In fact, in my very first fed, I was targeted plenty by half the roster blurring IC/OOC lines with these subtle "hints" in roleplays suggesting that the female character isn't a woman. Even now, I'm occasionally lumped in with male handlers writing female characters solely for T&A/sex appeal/fantasy fulfilling purposes even though I've never written a female character that way. So yes, said criticisms can be difficult on occasion. But what I like most about it is that to me, at least, it feels a lot more expansive. I personally find writing a male character limiting to the style of writing I do, which is why I haven't written one regularly in years and have no interest in writing one in the future. I feel like with female characters, there's more variety in what you can do and I feel like if some of the cynics looked past the "T&A" bunch (because there are some out there, I admit) and stopped grouping every male handler writing female characters in that same bunch, they'd actually realize this too. Didn't mean to get into a mini-tangent, but I sort of have a strong opinion on the subject.
BTI: I never felt any type of stigma writing the opposite sex. It happens so often that women will write as men and there’s never any issue. And blurring IC/OOC lines is lame all the time. The fourth wall should never be broken, even if it’s ‘clever.’ It’s bullshit all the time. Anyway, sorry for my own tangent. Hobbies?
CH: Writing, and not just e-fed writing, is a hobby of mine. I'm always looking to dig in and create whatever comes to mind. I follow sports quite significantly, hockey being my top one with baseball not too far behind. As far as other favorites, I have this odd obsession with peach flavored ice tea and fruit snacks. Then of course, wrestling because if you're not interested in the sport, it's hard to find your way in this hobby.
BTI: What kinds of other things do you write?
CH: I'm eclectic in general when it comes to writing. I admit that most of my non-efedding writing involves the characters I've used over the years in a non-wrestling setting. Essentially, what their lives would be like if they never wrestled at all. In some ways, it's helped me come up with ideas for them.
BTI: Now let’s talk wrestling. You obviously wouldn’t be writing in a creative wrestling writing environment unless you had at least some passion for wrestling. What is your experience with the sport of kings? How did you get into it, who is your favorite of all time etc…
CH: I had a passing interest growing up in the Attitude Era. I knew who Austin and Rock were, but I didn't really follow it. I first got into it in 2003 by watching SmackDown every Thursday. I admit it was more of the Ruthless Aggression era storylines that drew me in more than the action, though I did always appreciate it. Eddie, Kurt and Rey became some of my early favorites during that time, but my all time favorite is Jericho. Once I was able to watch Raw, the first match I saw was his Wrestlemania 19 rematch against Shawn Michaels and that really drew me in. Nowadays, I don't have the passion for the sport itself as I once did. I'll try to live stream any match I'm interested in from Pay-Per-views, but I'm not as into it as I once did.
BTI: It’s a shame that you’re not into it now if Jericho is your all time favorite. In my opinion this run, and the run he had back in 2008 when he was the slimy smart heel and feuded with Shawn Michaels were my favorite iterations of him. What made you like him so much? I think it’s obvious as I’m a huge Jericho mark too, but tell me why you like him.
CH: It was largely his persona that drew me in at first, but obviously his abilities in the ring came to be appreciated with time. The friendship and feud he had with Christian around that time is what essentially locked me in as a fan, and his 2008 comeback as you mentioned just further solidified it. I do think that his most recent work with Kevin Owens was some of the best work he's ever done in his career.
BTI: Finally to efedding. Without talking about Casey Holiday specifically yet, tell me about your experience in efedding. How did you start, why did you start, where did you start, where have you gone? Anything and everything you want to tell me without going into specifics about your current character.
CH: It all started on a wrestling forum, 10 years ago this month (May) in fact. I first heard about e-fedding then and I Google searched for days until I found one. In the 10 years I've done this, I've been pretty much anywhere and everywhere, far too many to list and that's not just feds, that's characters too. Fun bit of trivia though about my early experience. My first roleplay was a promo of a few hundred words that wasn't good at all, and yet, in just my third match in the hobby, I won my first title. That was pretty cool, won't lie there. I've won a fair share of titles, which does include world titles... sixteen of them across six different characters which seems impressive but I've known handlers who have won twice, or three times that amount. Maybe Casey makes it 17? We'll see!
BTI: Fuck- 16 time world champ here! To be the man you gotta beat the man! WOOH! Was this all as Casey Holiday?
CH: No, Casey has never won a world title. That's sixteen between multiple other characters of mine.
BTI: So tell me about Casey Holliday. What does she mean to you, why is she important to you?
CH: Casey is one of my newer characters as she only got started last year so while she doesn't have as much of an impression on me as my older characters, it has been some kind of roller coaster ride. I've been through a lot with her as many UCI folks know if they follow her roleplays. She had to overcome plenty to get to where she is today and it hits a bit close to home to me because in some respects, it reflects my real life as well. If she was a face, she'd have a hell of a rags to riches story to tell that would inspire the masses. But, as is... she's a whining, complaining pain in the ass who never appreciates anything and portraying that is always fun. I think as she goes along in her career, considering I see her as a very long-term character at this point, I'll fully know how much she means to me personally. Right now, I'm still learning about her and adding layers to her character.
BTI: I’m glad you see her as a long term character. I think the whole fed would be happy to hear that. Where do you see Casey Holiday going, IC in the fed and in her story (without spoiling anything for the reader)
CH: The Golden Ticket is a harbinger, obviously. I definitely see her as a main event contender now. I was told before that she was on her way up the ladder and big things were coming, but I admit that I really DIDN'T believe that UNTIL she won the Golden Ticket. In UCI, I'm confident enough to say that with the way she's going, she's going to end up winning the world championship at some point. As far as her story goes... she's in a bit of a transition process since I've put stuff from her old fed to rest. Without going into much detail, she's going to be a star on the rise in the corporate world for quite some time.
BTI: Can’t wait…Let’s talk UCI: How does this place compare to other places you’ve efedded?
CH: Considering the amount of feds I've been in, I'm only going to go off of the other one Casey has been at. It's not a bad fed overall, but having Casey there was an enormous amount of pressure. It eventually became a burden because I felt like the standards they had there were too high to meet, especially for a rookie character like she was at the time. I pulled her out of the fed after said stress overwhelmed me to the point where I broke out sick on two occasions. So, when I brought her to UCI, the change was not only enormously significant, but also welcome. I didn't have to worry about being thrown into the fire so soon. There was no standard I felt hovering above my head. It was a far more relaxed environment that has allowed me to organically develop Casey as much as I have from when she first got here. In her previous fed, I stressed way too much about making other people happy. I don't have that stress or pressure in UCI. As long as I'm happy and I feel like what I write for any given Casey roleplay is good enough for me, that's all that matters and the incredible support I've gotten from day one has been a real significant boost too.
BTI: How would you improve on UCI?
CH: The only red flag for me is the shows being late as often as they are. Otherwise, I do wish that more people in UCI used real Twitter. I've gotten used to the forum one but for a while, it was awkward using real Twitter to promote UCI stuff knowing you'd get no response. But overall, nothing major or drastic that needs a massive improvement.
BTI: Who do you want to feud with?
CH: Bonnie is probably happening very soon if recent events are anything to go by. Holliday-Holmes is a feud I feel needs to happen at some point too, naturally. Bishop, Fausse and Kaine are on the radar too, though I know you'd need one character to be a face for those to come to fruition.
BTI: There’s nothing wrong with a heel-heel feud if it’s done right. It could be a good transition to a tweener if you ever feel like Casey needs to make a move in a more sympathetic direction.
CH: I can see her turning tweener or even face (again) at some point to be honest. In fact, if I were to turn her face, I already know exactly how I would do it. Believe it or not, she actually started as a face but that didn't go to well, which is why she's heel now.
BTI: Besides yourself, obviously, who is the next person you think that will be the World Champ?
CH: Bonnie, Holmes or Shadowlove. I think one of those three are going to be the ones that wins the title from Kevin Bishop.
BTI: Final Thoughts.
CH: The ride in UCI has been a thrill up to this point. I never imagined Casey would come as far as she has so fast. I meant what I said before when I said that UCI practically saved her career, so this fed definitely has my gratitude for that. I've got a highly positive hunch that going forward, things are only going to get better all around.
BTI: If things get better all around then we’re in for a treat. Thanks to our fearless leader and the support of the Mods and the roster this fed has been budding far faster than any other fed I’ve ever been a part of. We’re headed towards one of the most intense battle for the World Title that UCI has seen as we take another step towards Lazarus and with characters like Casey Holliday creeping around the corner there is no safety for whoever comes out of that match alive.
Next week, if he cooperates and stops being a little bitch, I’ll have my first guest who has held the World Title on the show. That is… if he stops being a little bitch! See ya next time. Stay tuned.
