Beyond The Infinite: They all can’t be winners, even on Beyond the Infinite. Sometimes you have to scrape the bottom of the barrel in order to get content out there.
Fortunately for you folks that’s NOT what I had to do this time. This time I chose someone for me, a man, a myth, a legend even who’s name is as confusing as his French Canadian accent. So allow me to present, a man who needs to introduction…
BTI: First let me know a little bit about yourself. Who are you, what do you do, likes, dislikes. Pretend that you’re trying to win a date with me, but you also are looking for a serious relationship so tell me as much as you would tell someone on a first date. For the record, I look awfully sexy tonight in my lemon colored shirt with green pants and toe socks.
Psychopomp: Hi, my name is Eric. I'm a French Canadian. My first language is French bit I started learning English when i was around 8. I'm the proud dad of 2 boys (Logan (6), Chase (2) ). I spend most of my free time with them but why i have some time for myself I enjoy reading/writing for made believed wrestlers on the internet. I also like drawing, homebrewing, play sports and watching movies/tv.
BTI: I worked at a brewery for many years, and a few very good friends of mine have a beer based podcast on ITunes called “Beertastic Voyage” where they go to local craft brewers on Long Island and review some of their samplings, and interview brewers etc… You should check it out. What’s your favorite type of beer to drink and favorite type of beer to make. #Storytopped
P: That's pretty cool, i'll be sure to check it out. I like every kind of beer except red's (just the beer). Beer is more like an appetizer when i drink; beer to start, hard liquor/wine for the main course and mead/port wine for desert. So i usually drink lighter beers like blondes,IPA, brown ale, lager, etc. So they don't fill me up too much and i can drink more.
BTI: Now let’s talk wrestling. You obviously wouldn’t be writing in a creative wrestling writing environment unless you had at least some passion for wrestling. What is your experience with the sport of kings? How did you get into it, who is your favorite of all time etc…
P: My first memory of wrestling was when i was about 4-5 (about 88-89) and watching it with my grandfather. After that i mostly watched it in my early teens when they had a french broadcasting team with Raymond Rougeau!
BTI: Before you go any further I have to ask. In America we had the American broadcast teams and it was usually very much a heel and face dynamic most of the time. Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby the Brain Heenan were my favorite duo back in the day. Do they follow the same structure in French Commenating? Who was your favorite all time announce team?
P: From what i remember i saw two different teams of announcers Rougeau and another french guy from France so to me the other guy was annoying but i would say they were two face. With Rougeau history with wrestling he was pretty good at doing the in ring action while the other cracked bad jokes. And i mean who can forget the famous Rougeau vs Owen Hart boxing match!? It was great. As for the other team i don't really remember them, by that point i was watching it in english so i didn't keep up with the french commentating.
BTI: Thanks, carry on about your wrestling experience. Who were your favorites?
P: I idolized Bret and Owen Hart. Then I really started getting into it when WCW was on the rise. I loved the luchas and i was really hooked with Chris Benoit when he did the best of 7 against Booker T. And at the same time as i was impressed by his athleticism i was also amazed by Edge and Christian and everything they were doing in the comedy wise and TLC matches.
BTI: Harts, Edge, Christian, Benoit… obviously they all are amazing talents, but do you think that you feel more drawn to them because they were Canadian?
P: Probably, i mean i think that everyone here either wanted or want to be in that business and having people from where you are certainly gives you the feeling that maybe you can also make it. Canada is about a 1/10 of the size of the US (in population) and having such great talent come from here is pretty awesome. Even now having the longest reigning Universal Champion being a French Canadian is amazing and i'm sure that it helped motivate wrestlers from here to keep trying.
BTI: Oui Oui, Mon ami. Many people become lapsed in wrestling. Did you stop watching?
P: I followed WWE untill 2007 when to me the day that wrestling died. I'm not going to lie, i took it hard and i still do to this day...I stopped watching wrestling untill about last year because of it.
BTI: What was the day wrestling died to you?
P: I think pretty much anyone knows what I meant by that. The day that Chris Benoit decided to end his wife and son life before taking is own, destroyed me as a fan. And then we got the PG era with Cena so...
BTI: Fuck… I remember watching a WWE ECW PPV and looking forward to seeing CM Punk vs Chris Benoit and then John Morrision coming out instead. I couldn’t understand why it had happened. Then the next week they said that Benoit was found dead in his house. They did an amazing tribute, Vince McMahon even had to stop his ‘being blown up in a limo’ angle. Then when the truth was exposed it was even worse than anyone could have imagined. If you haven’t heard Chris Jericho talk to Chavo Guerrero on Talk is Jericho, and this topic somewhat interests you it’s an amazing point of view from two people who were his best friends to talk about it.
Finally to efedding. Without talking about Psychopomp specifically yet, tell me about your experience in efedding. How did you start, why did you start, where did you start, where have you gone? Anything and everything you want to tell me without going into specifics about your current character.
P: I started Efedding when i was about 15. I had a friend who was a couple years older than me and was actually trying to become a wrestler started an efed and invited me to join. At first i tried to do a more serious gimmick à la Benoit but it didn't really click...Only when i started doing a more comedy oriented one that i started to get more success.
After a while it closed down, then I try a couple of other different one. By the way they were all French language based fed. The ones that i can remember were RW (Revolution Wrestling), MCW (Millennial Championship Wrestling) and KWW (Killer World Wrestling).
I started efedding i guess as a creative outlet...It's been so long ago that it's hard to remember exactly why. During that time i did a lot of tag team matches with my real life best friend (some of you know him as Jack Timbers shortly in wcf) and we just had a blast writing the stupidest thing we could image. At one point i had an imaginary pet squirrel called Pedro...It was awesome.
BTI:Now tell me about Pyschopomp. What does he mean to you, why is he important to you?
P: Well, I've always just used the name 'Psychopomp'. He changed a lot throughout the years but i've always kept the same name.
BTI: What does Psychopomp mean?
P: Well, around the same time I started effeding I was really into mythologies and Legends and stuff like and one of my favorite band (the tea party) had a song called Psychopomp and after reading/learning what it was i found it pretty cool and even 16-17 years later i still love writing for him!
BTI: What is his origin story?
P: Well just like in comic books it changed over the years but right now it's just the classic tale of wrestler starting in the indies, gets into a tragic accident and loses his memory.
BTI: The cool thing about writing as a character who has lost his memory is that there really is no limit on where the story can go. There's no way in his life he can find out enough about his life to satisfy him. If done correctly, which you do, it can be a 2 decade long story. Where do you see Pomp going, IC in the fed and in his story (without spoiling anything for the reader)
P: I think the sky is the limit storywise! I think what we have going right now with my fellow brotherhood is great. IC, Pomp will probably be midcarder at most. I don't have enough time or talent to be like Andre or Bishop. And I'm fine with that! I really like hanging out with you guys and do great shows!
BTI: Let’s talk UCI: How does this place compare to other places you’ve efedded?
P: It's pretty great. People are older than when i started but sometimes that doesn't mean that they still act like mature adults...UCI atmosphere as been great. I'm a big fan of sharing ideas and helping each other.
BTI: How would you improve on UCI?
P: Seriously i can't think of anything.
BTI: LAME. You don’t get off easy like that on my show, buster. Name something that you want that you don’t have here.
P: Mmmm fine! I would like to see more mixed writing style match. Have a 3k limit rule on another match, or use the hypermedia rules for a non hypermedia match! Things like that. Especially for media type matches it's nice to have some practice before your get a title shot. I faced Teddy Blaze in a match like that for the belt and i had never done it before so let's say until maybe the last day of it my crops were a bad 4/10. It was really fun but maybe give people those types of matches even if its not for titles for practice?
BTI: Who do you want to feud with?
P: Anyone and everyone! Bring it! But yeah, someone around the same caliber that I’m in so that it won't be one sided.
BTI: Like who… what part of I need specifics don’t you understand?
P: See my first language is French so i can decided not to understand English when I want.
BTI: Besides yourself, obviously, who is the next person you think that will be the World Champ?
P: That a difficult question...Bishop is doing such a great job right now and there's so many talented people on the roster.
BTI: … come on…
P: I think Bonnie as some pretty good chances, she's certainly giving it her all and it shows. Andre for sure, he as a belt right now but probably not the right one. Zmac is back and not much can hold a coked up zombie when it wants something!
BTI: Final Thoughts?
P: Thank you for contacting me to do this with you, it's been awesome being asked question by someone as hot as you.
BTI: I AM hot. That’s the fucking truth, but not as hot as Psychopomp’s future. No one can argue that his rps are entertaining as all hell to read. Concise, fun and educational… kinda. Notice that he didn’t bring up the Brotherhood, nor did I until this point because lets be honest, who really gives a shit about the Brotherhood.
But think about trying to write as well as he does in your second language. I certainly learned a lot about this Psycho Pomp.
I hope you're enjoying this weekly episodic programming. For the first time since I started I'm caught up on interviews, however I'm in the works with 2 of them. depending on who gets back to me first i'll either have one of the most decorated efedders in history, or the top rising star in UCI today. So within the next two weeks we have 2 HUGE, and I mean HUGE interviews coming up. Stay tuned and stay Beyond the Infinite.
