Beyond The Infinite: Sometimes in life a person walks in that you can’t ignore. And on October 24th that person walked in. It’s a person with drive, charisma and grace. It’s a person who doesn’t give a shit about whether you like them or not, they’ve come to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and it appears that they are all out of bubblegum.
I use that quote specifically for a very good reason that you will find out as you read this interview. This week Karlie Nash has the honor and privilege to be interviewed by yours truly. He is a man of few words, and I like that about him. Not only is he able to get a point across constantly and effectively while conserving words, but the story of Karlie and Tracy is a tale that can rival any story being told in UCI today.
With that said, I welcome you all to the Karlie Nash edition of…
BTI: First let me know a little bit about yourself. Who are you, what do you do, likes, dislikes. Pretend that you’re trying to win a date with me, but you also are looking for a serious relationship so tell me as much as you would tell someone on a first date. For the record, I look awfully sexy tonight in my flannel shirt and knee high boots.
Karlie Nash: Devin age 42,
BTI: Pardon my ignorance but I’ve met both a man and a woman named Devin. Which gender do you identify as?
KN: Man
BTI: Thanks. Carry on please…
KN: Devin age 42, currently unemployed, likes sports, reading ( Favorite author Stephen King) classic rock, Sheryl Crow, John Fogerty, Metallica,County ( Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town, Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard )dislikes smokers, rude people, stormy weather, bullies.
BTI: What is your dream job?
KN: Working for a professional sports team
BTI: Now let’s talk wrestling. You obviously wouldn’t be writing in a creative wrestling writing environment unless you had at least some passion for wrestling. What is your experience with the sport of kings? How did you get into it, who is your favorite of all time etc…
KN: No actually experience in wrestling, just a long time fan. favorite wrestler of all time is Barry Windham, other favorites, Roddy Piper, Jake "The Snake Roberts", Iron Sheik, Curt Hennig, Bret and Owen Hart, Raven, Lita,Victoria, Trish Stratus, Road Warriors, Demolition, Edge and Christian, HHH, Randy Orton, The Bella's ( Yes I like the Bella's) Rusev, Miz & Maryse, Kaitlyn, Kevin Owens and Y2J.
BTI: I see you’ve gone from late 70s to today. I assume you watch the current product. How does it compare to what I and many others consider the Golden era?
KN: Today's product is based on entertainment value, and looks, Golden era was more wrestling based, most of today's wrestlers wouldn't have cut in the golden era.
BTI: Efedding doesn’t just stem from a passion for wrestling but a passion for writing. What is your experience in writing?
KN: Nothing professional, just casual stuff and stories I came with
BTI: Finally to efedding. Without talking about Karlie Nash specifically yet, tell me about your experience in efedding. How did you start, why did you start, where did you start, where have you gone? Anything and everything you want to tell me without going into specifics about your current character.
KN: I started in Thewrestinggame.com, around 2010, I've been in way too many feds to name all of them
BTI: Can you remember any characters you used to run? Who was your first character?
KN: My first character, is actually still active, guy named Hurricane Earl Lockyer, I started with him in IWA as part of thewrestlinggame. I have several other character also active.
BTI: Now tell me about Karlie. What does she mean to you, why is she important to you?
KN: She's a very interesting character, to be honest there's are a lot of Lesbian characters in the Efed world, but making a gay woman who likes mature ladies I thought that would make for something different, I just like to try and write different characters, she one of my favorite characters to write.
BTI: What is it like being a man writing a woman in a man's world? What's the hardest part about writing a character of the opposite sex? What advice can you give to someone interested in breaking the gender barrier and trying the same thing?
KN: I find is it an interesting challenge. The fact that's it's a female, and fully trying to understand the things that women do that make them different from being a man. I think my advice would be simply to have a blue print of who you want the character to be, what the characters like and dislike, the character strengths and flaws and where you want the character to go. My thought process with Karlie was to try and make her different form the other lesbian characters i've seen, hence her being into the older ladies.
BTI: Understanding the human psyche is hard enough, yet alone when breaking gender barriers. I commend you for that and to anyone who tries it. They should all be awarded gold medals and a weekly stipend of $20. Why Hilary Knight as the picbase? I mean the hockey player thing is obvious, but did the idea come first, or did the picbase drive the character development?
KN: Actually her pic base was going to be Taryn Terrell, but I didn't think she would fit the gimmick so I went with Hilary Knight.
BTI: I agree, Hilary Knight is a better fit. Hilary is beautiful yet strong looking. Some of the pictures of Hilary KnightI've seen she looks jacked AF. I'm sure Taryn is strong but I think a little too 'cute' for Karlie. Where do you see Karlie going, IC in the fed and in her story (without spoiling anything for the reader)
KN: I would like to see her rise the ranks, maybe win one of the lower titles, and maybe work her way up to a possible world title, and I an Idea with Her and Tracy that will really make you go WHOA.
BTI: The sky’s the limit for Karlie in my opinion. I know currently she’s a heel but I find myself seeing her as a real person in your roleplays and awfully sympathetic. In the ring she’s a coldblooded bitch, but in her universe you created for her she seems like she’s missing something and perhaps that’s why she’s filling the void with the violence. Tracy seems like the real heel in the universe. Am I reading into the character incorrectly?
KN: Plain and simple Karlie doesn't like her Stepmother Tracy one bit,and tries to avoid her as much as possible but the whole manager thing makes its difficult, to Karlie Tracy is the heel of the relationship.
BTI: Let’s talk UCI: How does this place compare to other places you’ve efedded?
KN: I like the different characters, and It's an active fed. And it doesn't seem to have much drama between the handlers unlike some fed I been in.
BTI: I agree about the drama thing. It’s very good like that. Who knows what’s happening behind the scenes, but the in board drama is lacking which is definitely a good thing. How would you improve on UCI?
KN: Maybe make it bi-weekly, give handlers with busy lives more time to rp.
BTI: Interesting thought. I personally don't like every other week, it feels like it could take too long to build things, but you're right in that this is a hobby and at times it's hard to find the time to write, a 2 week role playing period could be beneficial. It DOES appear that Spencer makes a habit of doing that for big shows (Infinity, beyond, Civil War) so a step in the right direction. Who do you want to feud with?
KN: I'm open to feuding with anyone.
BTI: No cheap answers here, buddy…pick a character. Someone you’ve faced that you think you can have a competitive and interesting feud with, or someone you haven’t faced yet but would like to.
KN: Casey Holliday, Erin Fausse, Bonnie Blue, Cordelia Malice, or maybe a tag feud against Teo/Andre Jenson
BTI: Besides yourself, obviously, who is the next person you think that will be the World Champ?
KN: I think Bonnie Blue has potential to be world champion.
BTI: Bonnie is the bomb! Final Thoughts.
KN: This was interesting.
BTI: Indeed it was. Karlie Nash is an old school wrestling writer. Using the experiences of Golden Era wrestling he is able to craft a story that peaks your interest while maintaining an old school ‘kick your ass under any means necessary’ mentality with the character.
By looking at Karlie’s record you will get the wrong impression of her. She is not a force to be taken lightly. Devin is a consistent writer and always tells the best story of the week that he can tell. He reminds me a bit of another Young character from a past life, but this is neither the time nor the place for that character.
And currently the time tells me that I have to go. Thank you all for reading and you’re welcome for
BEYOND THE INFINITE!
Stay tuned for next week when we have arguably our biggest guest to date on the show.
It's been a pleasure... for you.
