East Lake, Chattanooga, 2013
It was a cold night on East Lake, with the temperatures at 32 degrees and dropping. Ray was standing about with his gang members who all wore the color of crimson red, smoking and drinking. The streets were ridden with crime, and relentless killers, and Ray was one of them. It was 10:52 PM, they were discussing about hitting a lick on their rivals the next day. 10:53 PM, Ray and his gang had taken notice of a couple of hooded men down the street watching them from a dark corner under a shot-out streetlight. They were getting anxious, they were worried about something bad happening.. but Ray sensed impending doom at their doorstep. "Aye, I think we should run up on these niggas.. they creepin." Ray said with his palm wrapped around his Glock 37. Three of the members proceeded to leave the yard and started to walk towards the hooded men, and that's when they heard tires screeching like nails on a chalkboard from behind them down the street. The car was speeding at about 50mph, as they approached them, two men hung their AKs out the window, and opened fire. The street was like a marching band with all the noise, screaming, bullets firing, the flash from the muzzles, and the impact of the rounds. Their leader, "Big Eze," was gunned down in plain sight, right in the middle of a street. That was Chattanooga on East Lake, ruthless killers who didn't care where they killed you. Ray was only 13, and had seen so many men fall, and had seen too many of his own soldiers fall. This was different, sure, it was a gang member of his own, but this wasn't any soldier, this was an Admiral. Luckily, Ray had survived the drive-by, and two other members had been injured, whom had stumbled back into a chain-link fence, slumping down with their hands against their wounds. Ray lashed out with extreme anger, "Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck! They popped Big Eze! I'll fucking kill you, you fucking savages! I'll burn your houses down, I'll slaughter your families, fuck you!" Ray had tears streaming down his face. Who says a real nigga can't cry? Just because you're real, and you're a gangster doesn't mean you don't have a heart. Ray was a human, just like anyone else, and even though he was in a gang, he had feelings for those he loved. Big Eze was the one Ray looked up to all his life, after his dad had died from a drug overdose back in '07, and his mom became too ill to even take care of him, he ended up with another 'family' in the streets. Big Eze was a strong man with a monotone attitude, he had that veteran look to him, he'd often stare off as if he was having flash-backs. He had a big heart, and always took care of his family. He treated Ray like his own child, and even took him into his home a few times when his mom was strung out. Ray continued to scream, "Man, fuck you Crip ass niggas! I swear to God I'll take every one of you down! I'll mow these streets down like a street-sweeper, you fucking rampant assholes!" Ray was sobbing as he screamed, so his voice was cracking and was even going silent on a few words. Ray ran over to Big Eze and knelt down to him, pushing his hands down onto his chest. "Please don't leave Eze, please! This can't be real, you can't die!" Both of the injured gang members winced as they stood from the pain, and limped over to Ray, pulling him back. "I'm sorry lil man.. it'll be alright.. we'll get these niggas back, we'll get every one of them, I swear on the family." It was 11:02 PM, and that's when they finally heard the police and ambulance sirens combined, creating a grieving wail as the three members stood around Eze with sullen remorse. This was like a picture you'd see at the end of a book, black and white with worm's eye point of view shot. But that was far from the truth, this was only the beginning.
