Some said that it would never happen. Fan Favorite Teddy Sol has been no stranger to criticism during his time in UCI. While he remained a fan favorite due to his fun-loving and optimistic attitude, one of the main things that Teddy Sol has become known for in UCI is the inability to put together a string of significant wins, and has been left looking up at the rest of the roster since he began in UCI.
But that all changed on Sunday. The crafty veteran took advantage of a truly bizarre set of circumstances to claim his first championship in UCI, upending the favored Kuno Kenji in a surprising upset that left fans stunned.
The two fan favorites battled it out with high-impact offense, but an accidental knock to the referee nearly cost him the match after Kuno Kenji accidentally struck the referee. Sol used the distraction to his advantage, but was unable to secure the win because of the fallen referee! That's when things took a turn for the weird, as long-time enemies of Sol attempted to ruin the match, only for his former tag team partner Andre Jenson to return and clear the ring, dragging the unconcious Sol on top of Kuno to victory.
After a match that left more questions then answers, the UCI's newest Television Champion met backstage with UCI.com to address the fans. Holding his new title belt aloft, the Champion had the following to say.
"This has been. Without a doubt, one of the hardest roads I have ever had to face in my life. The UCI is full of some of the hardest competition in the entire world, and each and every one of these men and women deserve all the credit in the world for helping get me to this point.
I want to thank each and every fan who has ever believed in me, and every fan who has ever doubted me. And I have given you hundreds of reasons to doubt.
Tonight was a wacky, crazy, unbelievable match, and while I don't think that my differences with Kenji are completely settled, tonight I am walking out with my head held high. I'm not going to hold Kenji's mistake against him, I don't think he intended to hurt anyone, but the fact is that at the end of the match that there could be only one man walking out with this belt and tonight his inexperience caught up with him.
I cannot wait to see what my opponent does next, but above all I would like to say to him, use this experience. Do not be resentful, do not be upset, come back harder than ever, get into that gym, push yourself past what you thought was your limits and take this belt back fair and square. But until that day comes, if it comes, I will be proud to represent UCI as a champion for the first time in my career.
Thank you to everyone, to Andre Jenson, to Kuno Kenji, even to Spencer Adams, who believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself.
We did it, and now we've got a long road ahead of us.
Thank you and good night."
