EXT - DUST FILLED WILD WEST - DAY
A small wild western town in the middle of the desert, classic old western. The wooden buildings are covered in sand and muted, the town has seen better days and the residents have had better lives. Tumbleweeds roll across the streets as half starved horses drink from a trough, tethered to a bar outside of the saloon. A figure strides up to the saloon door, a cowboy. His leather clothing cracked and worn, his stetson casting a shadow over his face. He clinks as he walks, his weapons and metal buckles making noise, stopping on the pavilion of the saloon, he looks around before gritting his teeth.
INT - CLASSIC WILD WEST SALOON - DAY
SAM KIDSGROVE bursts through the saloon door and everything stops. The whole saloon stares at him, a stranger and suspiciously tooled. Some even put their guns on the table, ready for anything that may happen. Sam surveys the area and strides to THE BARKEEP, who’s busy cleaning his glasses with a good ol’ spit shine.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I need to find a man.
BARKEEP
Madam LeBeaux has plenty of men, stranger.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Not that kind of man. A specific man.
BARKEEP
Well, I know plenty of men. But it’ll cost ya.
SAM KIDSGROVE
What you got?
BARKEEP
I got whiskey and whiskey.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Fine.
Sam puts some coins on the table, then accepts a whiskey from the barkeep. He downs it. The saloon suddenly goes back to normal, the piano is playing and people seem to be a little more relaxed.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Another.
Another whiskey comes across the table. The barkeep leans forward.
BARKEEP
So, your missing man?
SAM KIDSGROVE
Yeah, I’m looking for Vince and his men.
BARKEEP
Vince? Stranger, you don’t wanna be going up that tree.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I’m not going to go up the tree, I’m going to chop it down. I’m in the mood for killin’ a man.
BARKEEP
You’re serious? This stranger has some balls!
The barkeep laughs and slaps the table, causing some of the men in the saloon to look his way. One shouts out.
MAN
What’s gotten into your craw ‘Keep?
BARKEEP
This stranger is tryna find Vince and his men.
MAN
Tell him he’s gon’ up the wrong tree!
The man also laughs, so does most of the inn. This saying is a favourite around these parts. Sam simply glares at them. When they quieten down, Sam speaks to the Barkeep again.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Yeah I’m serious. Where is he?
BARKEEP
Well, if ye real sure about getting killed then I’ll tell ya where he is. Two day ride East, at a gallop. They’re in the caves near the canyon. Find the pass and you won’t miss it.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Anything I should know?
BARKEEP
Yeah, don’t go. I hear they into all kinds of spooky shit. They kill and drink the blood of their sport. Aint no one here who wants to go near them.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I’ll keep that in mind.
BARKEEP
And you’ll wanna take a posse - maybe speak to the Sheriff. He’s had a bounty on Vince’s head for a while.
Sam grunts and stands up, nodding at the barkeep as he strides out of the saloon.
EXT - WILD WEST TOWN - DAY
Sam walks through the town, making a heading toward the jail. He’s soon stopped by the local undertaker.
UNDERTAKER
Ah, new business. Let me get your measurements please. I think a standard oversize will fit you nicely. Cherry coloured oak. Yes. It’ll look nice.
Sam tries to shoo him away, however the Undertaker slips him a card.
UNDERTAKER
Keep this in your pocket. I’ll make sure we look after your body.
Sam accepts the card and finally makes his way to the jail. A small wooden building with a creaky sign and a faded sheriff badge adorns it. A person yells at Sam from the bars in the window.
ALEX RICHARDS
Imma get you, ya varmint! Imma get you Kidsgrove! Imma beat you!
He laughs maniacally, hitting the bars with his cup. Kidsgrove stops for a moment to see who it is and smiles to himself, ignoring the prisoner he enters the jail.
INT - WILD WEST JAIL - DAY
ANDRE JENSON, The proud sheriff around these here parts and his deputy TEO OF THE SUN, an indian, are sitting at their desk playing a dice game.
SAM KIDSGROVE
You the sheriff?
ANDRE JENSON
That’s what the badge says. Can we do for ya?
SAM KIDSGROVE
Heard you got a bounty on Vince and his men.
ANDRE JENSON
Bounty’s there alright, you gonna go?
SAM KIDSGROVE
Yep, he got something of mine. I want it back.
Jenson and Teo appraise Sam for a good long while before deciding.
ANDRE JENSON
He looks like he could be handy Te.
TEO OF THE SUN
Look scrawny. Need fighters.
ANDRE JENSON
I know he looks like he just came out from the west, like one of those city slickers with too much money. He got a bit of somethin’ about him though.
TEO OF THE SUN
If you say so. White men all look the same to me.
ANDRE JENSON
So, you got a posse?
SAM KIDSGROVE
Nope, I’ll go after him alone if I need to. Been told where he is, I was told to come speak to you first. Kinda figured you’d have one all set.
ANDRE JENSON
Shit son. I did have one, but Vince signed them all up to his crew. If we gonna do this it’s just the three of us. Unless Te’s clan there will give us a hand.
TEO OF THE SUN
My clan does not mess with other people’s affairs. You know this.
ANDRE JENSON
Don’t hurt to ask though.
TEO OF THE SUN
We can meet with them, don’t hold on to hope.
ANDRE JENSON
Hope’ll be the best we got. So there are the three of us. And maybe some injuns.
SAM KIDSGROVE
How many does Vince have?
ANDRE JENSON
20, maybe 30. Who knows? He converts more every day with his occult ways. Even Teo doesn’t understand some of the stuff he does and he’s practically a savage. No offence.
TEO OF THE SUN
My clan teaches forgiveness before offence. An angry man is not wise in the ways of the Gods. A forgiving man helps nature grow the seed and the wolf.
ANDRE JENSON
Er, what?
TEO OF THE SUN
Don’t worry about it.
SAM KIDSGROVE
So, there is us three, and maybe some injuns
TEO OF THE SUN
Big maybe
SAM KIDSGROVE
Big maybe some injuns against maybe 30 men?
ANDRE JENSON
That’s about the fix of it.
SAM KIDSGROVE
OK. When do we leave?
TEO OF THE SUN
When the fire ball sinks and is reborn into the
ANDRE JENSON
First light.
TEO OF THE SUN
It’s what I was saying
ANDRE JENSON
We’ve talked about this, you need to speak more white. Especially around these parts.
EXT - THE TOWN SQUARE - THE NEXT MORNING
Andre Jenson, Teo of the Sun and Sam Kidsgrove are on their horses, ready to leave the town.
ANDRE JENSON
So we’re riding North for a day. We’re going to see if Teo’s clan will help. We’re meeting them at Hangman’s ridge.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I know the place. Interesting place to meet with some injuns.
TEO OF THE SUN
They always insist on it, ancient burial ground. Sacred. White man might stick to promises.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Fair enough, lead the way.
TRAVELLING MONTAGE - VARIOUS LOCATIONS
Jenson, Teo and Kidsgrove are travelling from the town to the meeting place on hangman’s ridge. The atmosphere is sombre and the men don’t talk much. Eventually they come to the ridge. Movement alerts the men as they go through the gulley to access the ridge.
ANDRE JENSON
Keep your eyes peeled.
SAM KIDSGROVE
They’re not exactly hiding.
Sam nods to the top of the gulley as hundreds of indians are staring down at them, bows at the ready.
TEO OF THE SUN
Just keep riding, don’t make any sudden movements. They are being safe.
ANDRE JENSON
I heard your visual acuity is based on movement.
TEO OF THE SUN
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
SAM KIDSGROVE
What’s acuity?
ANDRE JENSON
I Heard it one time from Sam Neill.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I don’t think jokes are appropriate right now.
TEO OF THE SUN
We are here, now be quiet. I will talk.
The men stop as they crest a hill to the top of the ridge. WINDSTRIDER OF THE SUN - the chieftain appraises them and nods to Teo, who dismounts from his horse, imploring the others to do so.
TEO OF THE SUN
Chieftain Windstrider, I have.
WINDSTRIDER
I know why you are here, Teo. But we cannot help you. Our clan do not want to join you in your white man’s war.
TEO OF THE SUN
With respect, Chieftain I…
WINDSTRIDER
You are talking on behalf of yourself, or on behalf of the white man? I do not trust the words that come out of your mouth any longer.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Fine, then listen to me. I don’t know your history with Teo, I don’t know what he did. I met him only recently after all, but listen and listen well. Vince is not just our fight. Vince is all of us. If Vince is left to be unchecked, Vince will take over. All of us. He will just run this region, once we’re cleared out and either a part of his group or dead then he’ll come after you. He’ll be bigger and smarter and more powerful. If we don’t actually work together and take him down we’ll all suffer. This civil war is here and we need to make a stand. Right now. Now we’re going to go to his caves, with or without your help because we need to take a stand, we want to do something and put an end to this chaos. If you want to help, fine. If not, fine. We’ll be on our way, do not punish Teo for wanting to do something.
Sam storms off and mounts his horse, then rides away - leaving Jenson and Teo to quickly follow. Chieftain Windstrider looks contemplative
Jenson and Teo catch up with Sam.
ANDRE JENSON
OK, now what?
TEO OF THE SUN
Who can possibly say?
SAM KIDSGROVE
Now we go kill Vince and stop wasting time.
ANDRE JENSON
There are only three of us.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I have a plan. We might not yet die.
EXT - VINCE’S CAVE ENTRANCE - NIGHT
Sam Kidsgrove walks up to the cave entrance alone. Rain is beating down and lighting lights up the sky. Two of Vince’s men standing guard jump up as he makes his presence known.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I’ve come to talk to Vince.
GUARD#1
Who’s Vince, who are you?
SAM KIDSGROVE
Tell Vince Sam Kidsgrove is here.
The guards look at each other and whisper urgently.
GUARD#1
Come with us.
They lead Sam through the cave and the network of tunnels. As they go further into the mountain, the more men there are, lounging around, playing dice, drinking. Eventually they come to a group of men, who all stare death glares through Sam as he shows up. VINCE looks angry.
VINCE
What do we have here? Is that Sam Kidsgrove? Who the fuck allowed Sam Kidsgrove to come in here?
GUARD#1
Well, Vince, I sure thought that you
Vince shoots Guard#1.
VINCE
Idiot, I told you I never wanted to see him again. I suppose now you’re dead though I’m speakin’ to a ghost. Ah well, now you’re here though Kidsgrove. We may as well have a little chat.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Where is my gold, Vince?
VINCE
Your gold? YOUR GOLD? YOU DON’T DESERVE THIS GOLD! WE HAD A DEAL YOU FUCKING TRAITOROUS PIECE OF FILTH.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Yeah Vince, we had a deal. It wasn’t to set me up to die though. You should have expected at least somethin’
VINCE
AND NOW YOU WILL DIE, YOU VERMIN!
Suddenly a commotion comes from the cave entrances, smoke is permeating throughout the whole system. Just as Vince points his gun at Sam.
VINCE
WHAT’S GOING ON?
HENCHMAN #2
A big fire in one of the caves, boss. So much smoke, I think we all need to get out of here!
VINCE
ARGH. FINE, GRAB THIS FUCK, LET’S GO!
The posse evacuate the caves as fast as they can. They run out into as much gunfire and arrows as Teo and Jenson can muster. They manage to take out 10 or so before running out of ammo and retreating away further up the hill. Escaping the smoke.
Vince barks orders at his guys to go find them, 20 men break away and go after Teo and Jenson, who are now backing up to the top of a hill and toward a stone outbuilding. Staying in cover as much as they can. The 20 men are firing and narrowly missing. They eventually make it to the building and hole themselves up in it. However they are starting to get surrounded and overwhelmed.
Sam meanwhile is still being man handled by Vince and the remaining 5 of his henchmen. They’re beating him with fists and feet, as well as whipping him with a bull whip. Sam is crawling along the floor as Vince screams at him with rage.
The 5 henchmen drop dead, with arrows pointing out of their chests. Vince screams again but at the clan of the Sun, all surrounding him, Teo and Jenson standing with them on the ridges. He lunges again at Sam and the two of them fight on the floor, a knife has been introduced into the fray as they fight. Vince gets the upper hand and lays on top of Sam. pointing his knife at Sam’s throat.
VINCE
It doesn’t matter what you’re doing. I’m going to kill you now, and you’re just going to be a footnote. Your revenge means nothing, you’re just gonna die anyway.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Yeah, well, I’ll see you on the other side then.
Vince plunges the knife into Sam at the same time a gun shot rings out. Vince’s eyes go wide and he falls off of Sam as Sam drops the gun from his hand. Jenson rushes to him as he feels the knife in his body.
SAM KIDSGROVE
I guess this is it, Sheriff.
ANDRE JENSON
You still have time, we can get a doctor or.
SAM KIDSGROVE
No, it’s too late. Please, just tell the town they are safe. Give them the gold and tell them what happened here.
Sam dies in Jenson’s arms.
INT - CINEMA SCREEN
After the credits roll Sam Kidsgrove stands in front of the auditorium to cheers and applause from everyone in attendance. He picks up a microphone.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Thank you, thank you. Thanks for joining me on my first showing of my directorial debut. I’ll take a few questions now.
REPORTER#1
Sam, great movie, what inspired you? Is this a personal kinda story?
SAM KIDSGROVE
Thanks Katie, yeah this is personal. It reflects my own personal tribulations that I have going on right now. It’s no coincidence that the bad guy is called Vince.
REPORTER#1
Is Vince supposed to reflect Vincent Pryde?
SAM KIDSGROVE
He does. The film is based loosely around what’s happening right now for me in UCI. I mean Vincent Pryde has my UCI Intercontinental Championship, he has this horrible company that is just trying to screw everyone over and really he’s the worst. This movie reflects the revenge I will take on him on Sunday. I have no problem in life reflecting art. I will fight him, I will fight all of his company, I will keep going and fighting until he is gone, or I am gone, or both. I have nothing to lose and I am willing to die to make sure that Vincent Pryde is stopped. He may have beaten Andre Jenson, but with all due respect to Andre, he didn’t have the burning desire or vengeance to beat this man. I do. That’s what separates us. I’m going to take it to a whole new level.
REPORTER#2
What are you going to do about Alex Richards, who has been angling for a title shot?
SAM KIDSGROVE
When I get my title back, Richards will be one of the first in the queue to get his shot. I’m not entirely convinced he’s not that masked guy Dr Strange though. He seems bizarre.
REPORTER#3
What do you think about the breaking news coming out of Hollywood that the executive producer of this movie is now under fire for inappropriate sexual advances on a number of women. Rumour is that this film, which is marked as your triumphant comeback and the spur for you to become big again is now canned thanks to his involvement and we’re going to be pretty much the only ones to see it.
SAM KIDSGROVE
Wait, what? Fuck. FUCK YOU WEINSTEIN!
