Geezus, what did the other guy look like? Wellll... Long story short, was oldest's sofball games, she needed warmed back up to go in in relief. Third pitch, ball goes off the end of my glove, and smack. Blood everywhere, and a trip to the ER. Damage done: 13 stiches, and a broken orbital socket base... That's the shit that happens when your 14yo daughter pitches for an 18 and Under College exposure team, a 60 mph fastball really belies the soft in softball!

Props for taking a 60 mph softball pitch that translates to a 90+ mph fastball baseball pitch to the face.
If I were you, I'd work on the hand, eye coordination old man, so that next time you catch your 14 year old phenom's pitch with the glove instead of the face. You gotta represent the other dads out there. lol
The bright side is. . . at least you took one for the team.

I normally dont have an issue catching her, but had left my glove at home (13" frame) and ended up using the Coach's (11"), so I blame that... LOL, yeah we had been talking about getting some gear, as I can usually catch her fine, but watching for spin, and her technique in her pitch form, makes it damn hard to catch safely...

I coached fencing for years and still wear over protective gear when doing it. Sometimes the less someone knows the more safe you need to be. But also once they get better than you at the sport you need to be safe as well. That happened thankfully many times while coaching fencing.
