{OOC: Disclaimer - The concept for some of the Quarian's biology is something I came up with on the fly. I don't know how accurate it may be, so if there's any biology experts that see any flaws in my concept, I apologize.}
It's a very stressful, yet important day for L Verez and her companion, Zima'Ion. L has finally joined the Guardians, though it was a bit due to circumstance. We still don't know how Bonnie Blue truly feels about L being in the Guardians. But it was after their former member Andre Holmes turned on them, and sided with the Society. A rather mysterious faction that is very much against meta humans, aliens, and the sort. However, the current situation for L Verez and Zima'Ion is a very dangerous task. The helmet of Zima's suit. The most critical part of the entire suit. So much so, that we're in a hidden area within L Verez’ headquarters. All of her feline companions, as well as our favorite robotic cyclops, are here to help as well. Polonium, Luminous, Limbo, and even Marvelous. The navy blue hidden room is mostly empty, except for us, the necessary tools needed, and a peculiar pod. Unsure what it's for. Everyone, besides me... I'm just the biographer, is helping with this process. Luminous has medical supplies, in case anything happens to Zima to where she needs to recover. Polonium is helping L with gathering tools. He's also able to turn his hands into defibrillators and other medical equipment, to help Luminous. Limbo is by the pod, working on a panel by it, as well as getting distracted by the shiny stuff, of course. Marvelous is aiding him, making sure he doesn't muck anything up. This is obviously a very sensitive and crucial task.
Zima'Ion: I'm sorry you didn't win the battle royal, L. I was hoping to see you get to face Calvin Harris for his Intercontinental Championship. It'd have been nice to see you finally shut the guy up.
L Verez: It's fine. As much as it upset me at the time, it's behind me now. I'm a Guardian now. We have the Society to worry about now… Whoever they are. Not even all the technology in the Universe can help me gather any useful information on this group. All I know is that they have Andre, and that they're prejudice against aliens, metahumans, and even gods. And most importantly, that they *must* be stopped. I'm still unsure if I can fully trust Bonnie after everything she's done… but she's the leader of the Guardians, and the World Heavyweight Champion, for good reason. I'm going to have her back. But if she does anything suspicious, especially involving time travel, I still have that Time Runner that's almost fully built. Alex, on the other hand, I fully trust. Speaking of, it was good to see him, as well as that actor, Sam Kidsgrove, tie at that battle royal. Now there's two optimal challengers for Calvin's Intercontinental title. I'm, of course, going to root for my tag partner though. To see him take Harris’ title would be almost as sweet as me doing so myself. But before he gets to do that, we have to deal with yet another faction. The Eclipse… two members specifically. Kaden Vossk, who won his debut match yesterday, and Devin Copeland.
Luminous: Not very much information on Kaden Vossk. He's definitely a man to be wary of though, due to his sheer size, strength, and agility.
L Verez: Yes, but that doesn't scare me. I've faced many huge creatures, and have conquered them all. Plus, I have a huge creature of my own on my side, and his name is Alex Richards. There's no one else in the UCI roster I trust more than him. So much so that I could see us defeating the Super Stache Milks to become tag team champions. Kaden Vossk and Devin Copeland… The Eclipse. That name is rather ironic, actually. An Eclipse only appears ever so seldom. Not only that, but they never last. Sadly, the same fate lies with Kaden Vossk and Devin Copeland.
A steam like sound alarms as L carefully finishes a part of Zima's helmet. Polonium hands L another tool, and she continues to work.
L Verez: I appreciate the help, Polonium.
IT IS OF MY GREATEST PLEASURE, PROTECTOR. I AM ALWAYS HERE IF YOU NEED ANY ASSISTANCE
L Verez: Of course, Polonium. Now, Devin Copeland… I actually have some info on him. He's a fed jumper. He's been wrestling since the birth of his adulthood. Jumping from one fed to another in an attempt to get his name out there. Now he's here in UCI with the Eclipse. Too bad for him, because the only thing he'll be getting out of the Zim-Quilla Sponsorship is his first loss. It's unknown what Eclipse’ motives are, but if they even think they can waltz their way to UCI and think that they run the place, then they came at the wrong time. The Guardians are here, and we aren't letting any Eclipse darken UCI.
Marvelous floats over to L, seemingly needing something.
Marvelous: Verez, I'm gonna need an extra bulb. Limbo found one, and saw how shiny it was, so he took it. He said he'd put it back, but…
L, Marvelous and Luminous look over at Limbo, who's practically worshipping the bulb.
Limbo: Sooo…. Shinyyy. Must… protects with life.
Luminous: That's why I didn't want him here, L. You know how easily distracted he gets.
L disappointingly sighs.
L Verez: Yes, I know. I was hoping he'd be a bit more focused today, knowing how important this is to me. But I guess I can't do anything about that. Marvelous, can you escort him out of the room, please? I'll have Polonium make a backup bulb while I continue to work.
Luminous: I'll try to fix the panel while you're gone.
Marvel: Yyyup…
Marvel takes the possessed Limbo and his shiny out of the room. The work continues. Zima giggles at the silly feline.
Zima'Ion: Limbo is so entertaining, even when he's accidentally sabotaging projects, possibly killing me in the process.
L and Zima laugh at the sudden dark humour.
Zima'Ion: Speaking of, L… can you promise me something?
L Verez: Yeah, I think I do pretty well with promises. What do you need?
Zima'Ion: If anything happens to me… I don't want that to put your UCI career on hold. You shouldn't have to put your life on hold for some Quarian you recently met at a club in the back end of the galaxy. Can you promise me that, L?
L hesitates for a second. This wasn't a promise she was expecting to be thrown her way.
L Verez: Nothing's gonna happen to you, Zima. I'll make sure of it.
Zima turns around and grabs L's wrists to stop her from working. She seems very stern.
Zima'Ion: I'm serious, L. Please. Promise me. No matter what happens. Please don't put your life on hold for me.
L looks at Zima with a distraught look, but she reluctantly nods in agreement.
L Verez: Okay… I promise. I just don't want anything to happen to you while I'm gone, if it comes to that.
Luminous floats over to intervene.
Luminous: No worries, protector. If anything were to happen to Zima'Ion, Polonium and I will do whatever we can to make sure she stays alive and well during your absence.
Marvelous returns to the room, and floats over to the team.
Marvelous: I overheard the conversation. I'm willing to help as well. I may not be very enthusiastic, but I'm not a big fan of death, so the more I can prevent it, the better.
L Verez gives off a sigh of relief, whilst giving Zima'Ion a cheesy grin.
L Verez: You guys are the best. Thank you so much!
Luminous: No worries, L. It's the least we could do.
Marvelous: Speak for yourself. You owe me one, Verez.
Luminous: Don't be so cynical, Marvel.
L Verez: It's okay, Lu! I'm totally fine with paying her back.
Luminous: You're sure?
L Verez: Definitely! Anything to make sure Zima's health is secure.
Zima turns back around with relief.
Zima'Ion: What would I ever do without you guys?
L Verez: Well, you definitely wouldn't be in a galaxy that orbits around a quasar and a black hole.
The group share a laugh. Even Marvelous gives off a bit of a chuckle. She seems to be getting along a bit more with the group. Their extraterrestrial humour eludes me…
Zima'Ion: So, you never explained how exactly this new suit is going to work.
L smirks and gives off a bit of a chuckle, whilst smirking towards Luminous. As she finishes a small part of her helmet, a snapping sound covers the room for a split second. She then hands her tool over to Polonium, and then gets a different tool from him, as well as a glass boot of Zim-Quilla.
NO WORRIES, ZIMA'ION. THE PROTECTOR WILL MAKE SURE YOU ARE AS HEALTHY AS AN EVERLASTING QUASAR.
Zima giggles and thanks the robotic cyclops with a nod whilst L takes a swig of Zim-Quilla.
L Verez: You never cease to amaze me with your loaded questions, Zima. Well, if I explained all the materials, we would be here all week. And I usually wouldn't share my technological secrets, but you're going to be lucky today. The glow in the linings of your suit aren't just for show. They wrap an invisible skin-like barrier around you, to keep any atmospheric hazards from intoxicating your skin. Now, the lining doesn't actually need to go all over, so I can actually cut off some of the suit, so you can actually show some skin and move your body a bit better. But… your helmet. That's the key to this entire project. Now, I studied up on Quarian biology. Something that most species aren't able to find out. Facially, Quarians are pretty similar to humans. Except for one thing… the ears, or lack thereof. I've always wondered what makes the Quarians’ immune system so weak to where they need to wear suits outside of their atmosphere. It's the side of your heads. Quarians have entry holes on the side of their heads. The ears being almost crater like. Now the others holes help add to three of your senses. Scent, taste, and audio. But these entry holes make it much easier for the atmospheres to reach into the immune system, and basically tear it to shreds, leaving you defenseless to countless diseases. Your amphibious skin doesn't help matters much either. It's very layered, and the extra oils keep the layers well tightened, but it can break down quite easily from the inside. Now… here's my solution.
Polonium hands L a replica design of the finished product of Zima's head. It's quite astonishing, as well as a bit disturbing, how much it looks like a severed head. The replica looks kind of like if a Quarian and a Borg tag teamed to make a new mask.
L Verez: Now… these cups right here are what will cover the crater shape of your ears.
The “cups” L is referring to look a bit like over the ear headphones, just without the connecting line up.
L Verez: There's a suction that will keep them attached to the crater like shape of the ears. Don't worry. It's much more comfortable than it sounds. Now, these cups have glowing tubes that connects them to this.
L guides her finger from the cup, down the tube, and into what looks like an extraterrestrial type of gas mask.
L Verez: Before anything, don't worry about your hearing. There are six small vents that have an inner tubing that will connect to your ear drums. Again, more comfortable than it sounds. That will allow you to hear properly. The purpose of the cups and the mask are to protect you from the dangers of the atmospheres. As you can see… there are three smaller glowing tubes on each side that go from the sensor holes to your mask. Now, there are multiple purposes for these tubes. One is to continue the lining that protects your skin. Two is to block the atmospheres from going through those sensor holes into your immune system. Three… three will allow multiple medical substances and enhancements to enter into your immune system. Antibiotics, vaccines, etcetera. This will, not only prevent you from becoming I'll from the atmospheres, but will help build up immunity to the illnesses that come with them. Overtime, you won't need this suit anymore. I'll slowly cut down pieces of your suit. You'll be able to breathe, eat, smell, feel. You can enjoy the wonders of the Universe without the need of a suit. This mask is your first step to sensory freedom.
For what feels like an eternity, Zima'Ion is speechless. She had no idea just how thought out this project was. Finally, her mind begins to surface.
Zima'Ion: Wow… in all my years, I never thought I'd be able to sense the Universe so naturally. But now you're giving me the chance to do just that. How, in all of the Universe, did I get so lucky?
L smiles at Zima.
L Verez: Well, let's not waste anymore time. You have a whole new life ahead of you to look forward to! Just make sure not to speak, and try not to breathe in too heavily. I'm still working on getting the atmosphere in this room to correctly replicate the atmosphere of your home planet, so it's not entirely safe for you to breathe just yet.
L and Polonium get to work. Luminous watches over them to ensure a mission safely accomplished. Polonium begins to gather all the necessary parts and tools to securely finish this project. Whilst he does that, L begins to very carefully open up small pieces of Zima's helmet. You can see her bright, platinum locks of hair begin to poke out of the helmet.
L Verez: Okayyy… Easy now…
*CRACK*
The back of the helmet pops open, as Zima'Ion's long, straight hair elegantly flows its way out of the helmet, graciously falling into place.
L Verez: Wow… stunning.
L knows not to get too distracted. She quickly gets back to work and grabs the suction cups from Polonium's tool center. L goes into the helmet, and finds her ears. She successfully suctions both of the cups in simultaneously. As L expected, Zima still seems quite comfortable, for the most part.
L Verez: Okay! Now for the mask.
She takes a swig of Zim-Quilla before getting another tool from Polonium, along with the suction mask.
*TSSSSSssss…*
A steam-like gas emerges from Zima’s helmet once L detaches it from her face. She doesn't remove the helmet from her head yet though.
L Verez: Hold onto your helmet please, Zima.
Zima'Ion obliges as she keeps hold of the loosened helmet. Whilst L is putting the suction mask on her, you can see the small bullet holes near her now covered ears, surrounded by her amphibious, indigo colored skin. The mask suctions around her mouth. I'm unsure how well, since I'm unable to see her face just yet. Polonium hands L the thicker tubes for Zima'Ion's ears. L is easily able to attach them accordingly. Once that's done, Polonium hands L the smaller tubes.
L Verez: Okay, Zima. I'll need you to bear with me for a moment. Once these tubes are connected, they're going to automatically make their way into your immune system. You'll be unable to use your sensor holes for a couple moments, so you may feel a bit uncomfortable during that time. Once it's done, though, you will feel one-thousand times better. So… brace yourself.
Zima holds on tightly to her helmet as L attaches the tubes to her new mask.
L Verez: Okay… here goes everything.
L attaches all the tubes at once. Zima'Ion immediately drops her mask to reveal her face. Well… when they said that Quarians looked human-esque, they weren't kidding. Her bright eyes match her hair. The oils on her amphibious skin make her face shine. The mask is see through, besides the two glowing circles, continuing the lining from the tubes. You can see her plump, dark grey lips, glimmering through the mask. As she regains her senses, the lips turn into a smile. The smile grows larger by the millisecond, the color in her eyes brightening with it. L Verez moves in front of her.
L Verez: How do you feel?
L has two small, clear circles on two of her fingers. They look like… contacts? She carefully puts them in each of Zima's eyes, adding some additional shine to them.
L Verez: That's just in case if anything happens to your tubing. It's to further protect your immune system, as well as your neurological system.
Zima'Ion blinks a couple times before recollecting herself.
Zima'Ion: I feel… alive. Healthy. This mask feels so much more… natural. Almost as if I'm not wearing this mask at all.
They both form huge, cheesy grins from ear to ear.
L Verez: We did it, guys! Her suit is done!
Luminous: Fantastic work! Now Zima can adventure with us much more safely.
L Verez: Let's test this out, shall we? Vince, can you please turn the camera off until we get to Earth? I have to go to the Drunken Dragon anyway for the Guardians meeting.
---
~Planet Earth --- Willard, Ohio~
We're back at planet Earth, in a small town. One of those places where everyone knows each other. At the moment, there's no one around us to give us the fish eye. Only L, Zima, and I are here.
L Verez: How are you feeling, Zima?
Zima'Ion: Alive and well, thanks to you!
Oh bollocks… Before they can continue talking, a dark figure appears behind Zima'Ion.
L Verez: Zima, watch out!
They grab Zima, and hold a sharp blade-like shape by her face.
: The Society says hello.
Zima'Ion: L...
L Verez: NOOO!!
Fuck! The cut her one of the tubes before L could get to her. L grabs Zima’Ion, instead of going after the figure, letting them get away.
L Verez: Zima! Zima, don't say anything. You're gonna be okay! I promise! Vince! We have to go, now!
---
~L’s Home Base. The Hidden Bunker~
A distraught L is holding an unconscious Zima in her arms, whilst Luminous and Marvelous finish up the pod for Zima'Ion. I'm very sorry about this, L. I didn't know what to do at the time to stop him. He was just too fast…
L Verez: It's not your fault, Vince. It wasn't your problem.
Of course it's my problem. Zima is my friend, too. All of you are!
L Verez: … Thank you, Vincent.
For?
L Verez: For sticking with us. For being my biographer. And for being a good friend.
Oh… it's not a problem at all, L. This life I've had with you guys have been immensely better than my life originally was, dreaded teleporter aside.
L Verez: Luminous, is it ready?
Luminous: Just about. My apologies for this, L. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
L Verez: No worries, Lumen. We'll figure this out.
What is this pod for, anyway?
L Verez: It's to put her into stasis. It has a replica of her home planet's atmosphere, as well as the same antibiotics and vaccines that the tubes have. But who knows what diseases she may already have after that… I think it was a Shade… cut her tubes. But how would the Shades be in contact with the Society? And how is there a Shade on Earth? Ugh… I just don't know what to think.
The stasis pod opens, and L Verez carefully puts Zima'Ion into the pod. L waves over the panel to close the pod.
L Verez: I have to go to the Drunken Dragon. Lu, Marv. Please… keep her safe.
Luminous: Of course, L. It's the least we can do.
Marvelous: You owe me one, Verez.
L Verez: Thank you guys so much. We're going to fix this, Zima… I promise.

To be continued...
