We all know that wrestling is entertainment, the results are predetermined etc. But in efedding the results are very much NOT predetermined and compeition based. Therefore, in the universes we create for ourselves wrestling is very much real.
Like MMA, but it's not MMA otherwise we would be in a UFC roleplaying fed not a wrestling fed.
Because our characters have depth, and they have personalities that they WANT known. They have stories instead of just being badass fighters. We create a world out of nothing for each other to enjoy.
But how do you explain the fact that some of the wrestlers created are not long for this world. Meaning that they travel through time, have super human strength, would kill without remorse, are aliens etc... yet in this athletic competition all the superpowers go away and we all fight on an even planes.
When I played an alien (before Gemini Battle for those of you who know him) I would say that a spell was put on the arena so that as long as he was inside of it he had the strength of the man who's body he possessed would have. This made it important for him to train like a human even though he was going through intergalactic struggles.
But now I play a regular human, and even though it doesn't totally effect us here as for the most part we are all human in the fed, I've decided to take a different approach.
This is the best example I could think of for how feds operate. These are the most vicious and evil fighters in the world. Ex convicts, aliens, other dimensional creatures (this video is a bad example of that, I'm thinking more like Mortal Kombat the first movie, but I dig this trailer so much I used it instead)
Basically, Johnny Cage could compete with characters like Raiden realistically.
Sonya Blade could fight Sub zero
Liu Kang could fight Goro
And the humans were able to compete and often times win.
You suspend your disbelief that other dimensional forces are stronger than the ones in your dimension. Realize that the freeze ray will kill you instantly, but you are able to avoid it because you are that damn good. That Goro is a big badass strong looking mother fucker, but is really no stronger than liu kang.
Then you explain why there is no killing outside of the game itself. Why doesn't Raiden just rain lightning on everyone and take home the prize?
Because that's not how the game works. Even though these are some of the most pure evil entities in every universe, they all decide that it's more important to fight with honor and integrity and prove that you and your people are greater than others in organized combat- and I'm pretty sure that Shao Kan said that if you kill outside the arena then you will be killed yourself.
So in an odd way this is how I'm starting to look at efedding minus the supernatural element right now. There are consequences for your actions. If you are to go outside the realm of what is allowed then you will be punished in the strictest way possible. The ability to fight is more important to all the wrestlers than the desire to severely hurt your opponent outside the ring. Because it doesn't matter what happens outside the ring, because no one will see it.
But if you will someone IN the ring- though rare- it is ok because you know what you signed up for.
I'm not sure if I made any valid points or if you all feel stupider for reading this but in my mind I feel like it makes things make more sense to me at least.
What are your thoughts as to what wrestling is in your universe?
