Yeah, color coding promos is tedious and superfluous. Not to mention it makes reading RPs on your phone practically impossible sometimes (and reading them on the computer pretty painful, depending on what colors people choose).
I basically just use color coding to highlight important bits. Past that it just seems to take away from the text.

Heh, I can't not do colour coding. It's an ingrained habit from back in the days of using HTML on InsideTheWeb message boards; as soon as my mind goes into RP-mode, I seem to hard-code as I write. Then again, I also write in three different styles, so I use different colours to help the reader differentiate between the different atmospheres I'm trying to project.
In the end, I don't think colour coding and formatting are too important - so long as you're not posting a wall of text - and are basically just ways to give your RPs a personal aesthetic.

I mean...without shoot or relevance what is the point of playing this game? At that point you are just telling stories, right? You should be able to mix both and have an overall enjoyable product.

There are different ways to do it with setting some scenery if it feels better to write for you. One way is to set a scene that takes a jab at a character and comes off as a bit clever rather than just straight up direct. Rather than paragraphs of shoot at a time, you could maybe look to break it up into a conversation between two people that keeps focus on the opponent, but more in a conversation or more realistic setting than just cutting the shoot. In general, I don't think you need multiple thousands of words worth of shoot to succeed, just find ways to mix the stories you want to tell with what you're doing that particular week in the world of UCI. I could definitely see the seeds of this in your last promo. You're gonna do just fine, man. I try to keep things relevant to the state of the company, what I'm booked to do, etc. I just felt a lot of pressure in the Dub to be like everybody else; spitting paragraphs of venom at people, yawn. I feel sorry for people who write shoot promos, like nobody ever told them they could do whatever they wanted. You know? Like, hey man- this is a medium where pretty much anything you can imagine is ok, and- oh, you're desperately trying to win a fake belt so you have to write six pages of bullshit. Nevermind, go for it. I'm just worried that this'll be the case again, because e-feds always seem to lean that way. I have faith in y'all, for sure. -B. Sounds like how I felt... One reason I gave up going for the big gold belt...

I agree, color coding gives me a headache. It seems to take longer to color coat the roleplays than it does to type them. I say we pick one color to post the roleplays that is easy for everyone to read. And if you want to "highlight" something important then you can color coat it. Nothing wrong with keeping things simple or going back to basics. The quality of the roleplays is what matters to me and not the Rainbow Brite colors.

Shoot still has a part in stuff of course and with color coding, it's just about personal preference. Although I never liked reading a promo that was pure default green of all colors to be honest.

I've always used dif colors for dialogue, I feel it allows me to not have to put who is speaking every time...

I'm not trying to legislate color coding or anything, I just think it's something that could go sideways real quick. It's probably not something I'll spend much time on personally, but I can see how it helps in situations (for instance, Omega and his myriad styles and occasionally personalities).

I would always seperate rps into scenes (Part 1, 2, etc.). I'd put four spaces between scene names and scene beginnings/endings. I usually just picked a color that fit for character names and did the highlight and color thing. Didn't seem to take too long.

I was just speaking for all the color blind people out there and for no one in particular. LOL Color coding isn't going to break the bank one way or the other for me. I'm having fun either way.

I know I've always used color coding to divide dialogue from description. It just seems to me it divides things up and make it easier to read, but I've never had a problem with people who don't do it.

To make things clear, I really don't feel this way; just being a wise ass and referencing a short running gag from WCF. The main reason I don't color code things is because I'm lazy.

When I first started roleplaying in the place of old, I started out all white because of the black background. I think after my 3rd or 4th roleplay, people were having trouble reading the white from their mobile so I then started experimenting with different colors. The main thing for me is what finding that neutral color that helps out everyone to read. As a current example Polar, Bonnie, and FPV just put out some roleplays with non color coding and some color coding and all 3 looked good to me.
